Just thought I'd crop and scale the latest selfie from Curiosity, so I could use it as a desktop background. 1920x1080

I finally get it.

I've finally come to remember why running is so awesome. In everyday life there are so many things outside of your control that will make you happy, sad, thankful, frustrated, content, cry, smile, or howl with rage. We tend to go with the good stuff, and when we are in our right minds, we shrug off the bad. But, no matter how hard we try not to let things out of our control affect us, they still do.

But if I feel good when I'm running, it's because I'm impressing myself. If I'm disappointed when I'm running, it's because I'm letting myself down. If I do something stupid and injure myself, there's no one to blame but me. If I set a new personal record, there's no one to congratulate but me. No matter what happens when I'm running, it's all on me.

When I'm running, I am in control of my happiness.

All right then. It looks like I'll be using TheOldReader to replace Google Reader. I'd checked it out awhile ago when Google first announced the upcoming death of Reader, and found it lacking. But it has greatly improved, and for my uses is now ready to completely replace Reader.

Just a heads up for anyone still looking for a Reader replacement. Of course, if anyone knows of any better, I'd be happy to hear about them. :)

Went for a wander around Lumphini Park today to play with my new lens and start getting used to it. The lighting kind of sucked, but oh well. Here's some local wildlife I saw, posted to my blog so that it isn't entirely useless (there's also a photo album here on G+ with these shots).

I am decidedly VERY unhappy about #Reader shutting down come July. Seriously. One of my very few "visit many times daily whenever there is something new" sites.

"From your 87 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 2,211 items, clicked 64 items, starred 0 items, and emailed 0 items.

Since July 14, 2009 you have read a total of 45,596 items."

Yeah, kind of definitely need an alternative. Looking into a few like Feedly, OldReader, and GoodNews, but it seems like everyone is getting hammered as masses of Reader users scramble for alternatives. :(

Dear Google. Please fix the buggy app icon badge in the Gmail iApp. It doesn't disappear even after all inbox messages have been read.

Matchracing event at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya, Thailand. I was photographing all of Saturday and part of Sunday until unforseen circumstances combined with inadequate preparation and lack of time killed my camera and lens. I had to set it down in the boat I was in to assist with an emergency on one of the sailboats, as a sudden storm had snapped their mast. I didn't have a chance to shove my camera into my dry bag, so it got flooded. The lens is definitely dead. The camera is probably dead, but I'm drying it thoroughly with rice before I find out for sure.
