Into the world of Ballpointpen art
Hi Friends, This time I had come up with a brief on how to draw with
ballpointpen artworks. Like many of you, I too stumbled at ball point artworks
at one point of time when I was in love with graphite and charcoal artworks.
But as soon as I explore more in...

THE BIC CHALLENGE
By Jerry Stith on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 2:52pm

The Bic pen corporation has a site up called CHALLENGE BIC plus a place at Facebook with the same name. As leader of the Ballpoint Pen Art Movement I posted the following messages on the FB page.
Greetings Bic pen corporation how are things going with you folks? I see in year 2005 your company sold their first one hundred billionth ballpoint pen. Congratulations are certainly in order for an achievement of that magnitude. History in...dicates that Bic obtained the Biro pen patient and then applied it into a world leading sales item through Marcel Bich and Edouard Buffard in about 1950-52.

In 1888 J. J. Load an American produced and put to patent the first ballpoint pen that was used for working on leather. He never manufactured or commercialized his idea therefore it laid idle for about fifty years. In 1938 the Hungarian Biro brothers out of Argentina retooled the idea, manufactured and put to patent it commercially. It took them time to materialize a thicker oil based ink that would hug a rotating ball yet not leak. They sold the patent to the British Air Force which in turn ended up in the hands of Marcel Bich. He decided to call his improved product a Bic. Sixty years later Bic is paying attention to ballpoint pen art. (I’m not forgetting your latest colored pen product line released in France.)

In 1968 I decided to become a ballpoint pen artist. I also dedicated my life towards establishing the ballpoint pen art movement. I traveled a lot to learn about our society, the art world, museums, galleries, media, people and to develop my art abilities. Advertising, marketing, sales, publishing, public relations and promotions also became of interest. I was raised on military bases therefore knowledge of protocol or political thinking was also being exercised. In the year of 2000 our American made internet became of interest to me because it reached out across the world. It also gave me an opportunity to utilize my experiences or knowledge.

I discovered that pen and ink wasn’t being represented very well plus ballpoint pen art was non exiting. By then thirty-two years went into developing my ballpoint pen artworks. I knew that ballpoint pen art was doomed if nothing appeared on the WWW. Over three decades of drawing in public taught me that most people never saw what a ballpoint pen could do as an art medium. Even fewer people knew that a ballpoint pen came in many colors and that included other artists. My Lindy ballpoint pens jumped me into colors at that time. They had twelve colors no others offered and that totally changed my life for the better. I knew that a world ignorant of colored ballpoint pens or art was the death of me which meant something had to be done.

In those days I knew nothing about computers, software, the internet, Web design or related matters. Needless to say my first year on the Internet was difficult yet very exciting because much was to be learned. My first ballpoint pen art site was with the Microsoft Network. Nine years I was with them until they discontinued their group sites. They directed us to the Multiply Network which turned out great because the HTML coding was much superior to that of MSN. My MSN group sites totally dominated the Web for nine years in popularity and search engine ratings because I was the only person with a ballpoint pen art site.

Eventually many more ballpoint pen artists surfaced or found their way to the Internet. My skills, research, knowledge and popularity was gaining momentum. I transferred as much as I could from my MSN sites to a new Multiply location. Introducing commercial formats, morphing, digital art, animation, video and written statements expanded my achievement level plus keep me busy. Displaying other uses of my ballpoint pen art was important because it helped broadened our movement’s base line. Showing many formats helped educate the public of what could be done with pictures they already had. I say that because mix medium or media is real and important throughout the business or commercial art communities. I was amazed that no others put such things into practice. It also provided me with an opportunity to display my leadership role worldwide!

In the last several years the pen industry finally started to produce more colors, archival inks, additional tip sizes, better casings an interest in its public. China and India are both really advancing in the color department or with production. Universal and pressurized cartridges have also hit the market place. I noticed France has more colored Bic pens on the market than in the USA. Bic is also producing security ballpoint pen inks to stop fraud which in turn helps some artists because those are archival. Unfortunately most artists don’t know about those pens because they’re hard to obtain. It seems the pen industry knows little of the art world and artists know little about the business world. My site was designed to bring both of those worlds closer together.

I’m surprised that the pen industry has shown such little interest in ballpoint pen art. Many artists worldwide have geared their lives around ballpoint pen art my friend. The Bic pen company in 2005 sold their first one hundred billionth ballpoint pen. That indicates several hundred billion ballpoint pens have been produced throughout history. I keep wondering how many of those ended up in an artist hand? Building a site to represent those people is what my last ten years has been all about. Helping others and producing ballpoint pen art history has been a very rewarding project spiritually plus emotionally. Now I’m giving advice or counseling the great Bic pen corporation on how to prosper an extraordinary four thousand year old pen and ink art movement. Go figure!

My site has better ballpoint pen artworks and videos than any forum, search engine, network or group on the Web. You now have a pretty good idea of what’s going on and me to work with Mr. Bic. This can be a historical moment in time if you folks pony up some money, bring lots of us artists to your headquarters, document our gathering, develop a coarse of actions, build a museum and get serious about advancing the ballpoint pen art movement. Ballpoint pen art can go to the next level with your help. Please remember many artists have or will dedicate their lives to ballpoint pen art with Bic’s support. It’s time to think outside of the box and to pump millions of dollars into this art movement in my opinion. I guarantee you that there is money to be made plus an exceptional place in history for the Bic pen corporation if you folks decide to seriously get involved.

Cheers, Jerry Stith
