Teaching Princeton Youth Orchestra students how to make their instruments sound better. It was part of my lecture "Seven ways to make your violin sound better". We had only 10 minutes, so I had to cut it to first two elements - rosin and strings. Students were captivated and with all the questions, we spent about half an hour. It was a great pleasure working with all three orchestras; Preparatory, Concert and Symphonic. I hope they will sound better at Richardson Auditorium on June 5th.

The Good among the Bad, the Ugly...Out of a pile of instruments there were some excellent violins. I found a little treasure; a Francois Barzoni Violin circa 1880-1920. Exquisite Swiss pine and handsome sycamore. Rich, golden yellow varnish. Beautiful sound of old french violin. Workmanship throughout is superb.

The Good, Bad, and the Ugly!
A phone call to the shop led to a trip to the home of a retired music store owner that had a house overflowing with instruments in every single room. The state of the instruments varied greatly. Some were in complete disarray that could only be used for parts and others were excellent instruments after restoration. After purchasing all the violins, viola's, cello's and bows, we had to rent a Home Depot truck just to get it back to the shop!
Quite an amazing day in the life of a violin restorer. The best violin safari ever!
Purchase one of those violins today here:

We now have all the cellos prepared in our shop and ready to be played by these wonderful young musicians. I will be in attendance at all the concerts to help the musicians with their stringed instruments. We wish them the best of luck and a safe trip to the East coast! Before and After Violin Restoration

"This is a violin made in 1917 by one of the best Swiss makers. I acquired it at the condition shown on the left side with extensive varnish damages mostly on the back. Through all my experiences I was able to identify the historic pigments that were used by the maker. I knew how that pigment was precipitated and reconstructed that process. Then I applied pigment with varnish to the violin, as shown on the right side. This kind of varnish restoration takes a few months, but if done properly, it is possible to restore the violin to its best condition, making it attractive again." - Jarek Powichrowski

We specialize in complicated restorations of antique and historical instruments. Neck grafts, sound post patches, button grafts, bass bars and other complicated reparations are performed here all the time. We can restore the most sophisticated varnish that has been damaged. Generally, we can bring any instrument back to life. We also repair and rehair bows for all instruments using best quality hair.
