Closely paraphrasing +PennJillette; You should feel about the things you feel, and think about the things that [require evidence and proof]. You should feel love, but you should think about evolution or any measureable or observable fact.

My thoughts; Sadly, the incoming federal administration does neither.

Unfortunately, it's now going to be half of the new administration's cabinet as well.

(Not sure why this doesn't make them delusional, and thus unfit to serve.)
[[A girl and man stand together, with another figure in the distance]] Girl: Professor, that man claims the earth is 6000 years old! Professor: So? Just use your head and don't concern yourself overmuch with what other people think. Girl: But he says the fossils in the mountains were put there ...

Can you spot the actual musicians in the lineup, because I sure can't. I'm beyond tired of alt-types treating button-pushers as if they were actual trained, skilled artists. At best, they are arrangers, and engineers. At worst, plagiarists and thieves.

And, really, do they need to be told that loud, angsty, bad singing and playing has already been done? It is neither bold, nor original. Moreover, celebrating deliberately-unskilled noise as art is a slap in the face to anyone who has spent any time trying to master an instrument and become conversant in the language that is music. It's like calling the scribbling's of an illiterate great literature.

If their taste in talentless music is an accurate barometer, I can only imagine how they'd laud a novel written solely in l33t-speak, or the pidgin-English of the SMS-scape. (No wonder they love Murakami...)

FWIW, before writing this rant I listened to all of the sound samples - and a few more tunes from each supposed-artist on the bill. Not one challenged me musically. Sad, really, that a Seattle music event is almost, if not completely, devoid of trained musicians.

There are more than 100 local and touring bands playing on five stages during the three-day Capitol Hill Block Party this weekend, and they're all on our Capitol Hill Block Party calendar, along with photos, video, and audio links. There are also a total of 52 bands recommended by Stranger critics. If all of those numbers overwhelm you, we've made it easy for you: Below is a list of the top 15 bands you really...

Good advice from my former boss.
Governor Inslee came into office determined to make climate a priority. Instead he has faced a series of tough losses and retreats. The Republican state Senate rebuffed his proposed cap and trade system. To get a highway bill (itself a … Continue reading →

Paul Horner, the 38-year-old impresario of a Facebook fake-news empire:
Honestly, people are definitely dumber. They just keep passing stuff around. Nobody fact-checks anything anymore — I mean, that’s how Trump got elected. He just said whatever he wanted, and people believed everything, and when the things he said turned out not to be true, people didn’t care because they’d already accepted it. It’s real scary. I’ve never seen anything like it.
The man responsible for many of this year's viral political hoaxes thinks he may have swung the election.

Dems wouldn't filibuster radical SCOTUS nominees, so I don't know why I have any faith that they'll perform a holding action for the next 4-years -- but it's the only path.

+Hugh Geenen We play fair and expect fair-play in return. They play to win, and laugh as we unilaterally disarm. A perfect recipe for getting rolled. over and over again.

Nice.  Totally meant as a compliment; the cadence and the bounce in the beat reminds me of Bear Naked Ladies.  Really like the bridge, btw.

Interesting social networking info.

Social is getting old; Facebook, Twitter and G+ attract baby-boomers
According to the GlobalWebIndex between Q2 2012 and Q1 2013 Twitter’s fastest growing age demographic was 55 to 64 year olds, registering an increase in active users of 79%.

Both Facebook’s and Google+’s fastest growing age demographic was 45 to 54 year olds, growing by 46% and 56% respectively.

The other driving force behind the popularity of the big three is mobile. Since Q1 2011, the number of people which access the internet via a mobile phone has increased by 60.3%.

The good news for G+ is that the percentage of active users independent of age is rising. A 100% rise in posts and 75% in photos means these new people are actively contributing content. A key to survival for the content-centered G+-.

More posts means more results in search which will attract new users for G+. Now the question is who is seeing the growth in the younger demographics. Is Pinterest the new social?

Introduction
In Seattle, by way of California, Connecticut, D.C. and New Hampshire.  What a long, strange trip it's been.

I'm a performing musician, policy geek, and lover of DIY.  I ride bikes, restore and hot-rod old motorcycles (Japanese and British), and - given the opportunity to study the subject - will generally take on any challenge or task and see it through.

MIke's an amazing guy, and a great frame builder. I've had two of his frames (the first was stolen - bad karma to bike thieves!), a cross frame with convertible dropouts, and a lugged road frame. The latter was shown at Interbike in 2007. Both rode beautifully and were exactly what I'd wanted. Mike's a busy guy, but runs a great businesses and build great bikes. You can't go wrong with one of his frames.
