I am encouraged.

The whole "happy birthday" thing has been a pet peeve of mine ever since I discovered the Longhorn Ranch girls weren't allowed to sing it. I think I was six.

At least they had —and used!— cap guns!.
A 1927 kids' songbook proves "conclusively the song is in the public domain."

The show is called "Geeks who drink," and it's as horrible as it sounds. We get to watch psudo-geeks answer trivial pursuit questions with a guess.

Nobody could come up with the answer for this question: [cut to: video of Will Smith in the robot room of "I Robot"] The title of this movie is from what Author?.

Nobody knew, and one person guessed "Neil Gaiman."

Sorry, if you don't know Issac Asimov wrote the original "I Robot," (and, really, you should know he originated the 3 laws of robotics too) then you are not really a geek. At least not in the context of what this show is supposed to be about.

I think a better name for the show is "comicon fanbois who drink, but don't really know sci-fi or science."

As a matter of fact, I recently went to see a screening of "Aliens" on the big screen (it was phenomenal). And the android cited the 1st rule of robotics verbatim, when trying to reassure Sigourney Weaver's character, after she discovered what he was.

I did not catch that originally, needless to say I was impressed. It was a nod to Asimov.

The reference is actually mentioned on Wikipedia, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics

Now that Slashdot's new owners have completed the site's transformation from useful to click-bait, will you still visit it?

That's a shame. It was a really nice science aggregation site. It had an excellent mod system and users were generally pretty decent.

Naturally, there were trolls but where aren't there any trolls?

I'd be interested to hear what y'all say if you're "progressive".

Seriously now, which sign would you rather see in front of your kids' school?

I will explain why I would like the one on the right: If a crazy comes into the school where my child is, I would like for there to be people on the scene who are able to deal with the threat immediately.

Currently, schools (99.9%?) operate under the rules provided by the sign on the left. This doesn't seem to stop crazies from entering and creating carnage until an armed someone from off-campus can arrive. Even 5 minutes is enough to be waaay too late for the long list of victims that can be generated in that short amount of time.

If you agree with the sign on the left, please provide an explanation for why you think it is the better idea if the plan is to keep children safe. Maybe you've thought of something I haven't, and I'd like to hear it.

I'm a progressive, and I love this.

(I live in Arizona, and we have no local gun laws - we love our weapons)

Some people will say "black power" and "white power" are different; one is okay and the other is not. The truth is that both can make people feel alienated. ‪#‎Unity‬ is far more powerful. Do you agree?

This is pretty cool.

It's not often that Twitter is uplifting, but late last night a new hashtag started trending: #UnplannedParenthood.

False Science  -

I posted this to one of my circles, with the following commentary. I thought some here would like to comment as well.

I've been skimming over the documents (I have no real desire to wade through all of it), but so far all i'm finding is political PR positioning stuff, not manipulated science. It reads creepy, like most internal corporate stuff,

Seriously, y'all are pissed off because someone who is trying to protect his business has to resort to your level deceit (if there really is that here)? Do you really think there isn't a competition for "public funding" where-in douchebags make back-room deals and defame competitors to get a seat on the policy table?

Grubers don't exist? Really? People like Soros and Kochs don't exist on the left? Really?

I'd say tabloid sensationalism is a hallmark of the feelie class, a simple hook to generate outrage sans knowledge.
