What do you do when your dog "parks it" while on a walk?

The smell of salty ocean, fishing vessels prepping their nets for the next day's work and the stunning backdrop of cloud-shrouded mountains.  Just a couple of the reasons I wanted to stay in Sitka much, much longer.

Well.  Looks like I was right and wrong at the same time.  They are Finnish and hunt by barking and keeping the animal at bay while waiting for their handler to come make the kill.  Boxers are German and hunt by grabbing hold of said bear after it's been shot.  They have that under-bite so they can continue to hold on while bear tries to run away.  When bear dies/boxer lets go and tells handler where the beast is.  Cool looking dog (for a dog with a pointy nose)  he he.

Bogus quote from PD...It will be a LAW and for some reason I thought your job was to enforce laws.
“This is not a crime that would be investigated by the LAPD or likely any other municipal police department,” Officer Karen Rayner, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department, said in an e-mail.
Foie-gras lovers from Los Angeles to San Francisco are flocking to restaurants this week to savor the delicacy before a state ban takes effect July 1. The taste may not be their last.

Ella is thinking "How about I sleep here...and YOU get in the box!". I'd say silly puppy but guess who got to stay on the bed??

Ella loves her treat-filled artichoke!  (and I love that it keeps her busy...)

FYI... Ella is a foster puppy in San Francisco, almost 4 month old and brilliant (I'm biased but really, she is!!)

Taylor was a very special pooch and it is perfectly fitting that her last sunset was brilliant.  A beautiful capture by +Joe Azure

For Taylor

Two nights ago I went down by myself to Sutro Baths for a low-tide sunset shoot (check the local  tide tables here: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaatidepredictions/viewDailyPredictions.jsp?Stationid=9414275)

While I was there I got a text message asking me to call.  Usually while I am shooting, I will ignore these until I am done, but something told me I should make that call.  I was very sad to hear that one of my favorite dog friends "Taylor" had passed away a little while ago.  I hung up the phone, shot this picture, then quickly finished and packed my gear ... then just sat on the rocks for a while.

Taylor was a wonderful old dog whom I had the pleasure of getting to know over the past few years.  She would stay over at the house when her mommies were out of town.  She did not like men, but for me - she made an exception.  It was a pleasure Taylor :)

What a heartfelt story to go with this sunset.  You can see for yourself the the end is beautiful and your heart knows it is really the beginning.  I am sorry for your loss.

With Tagg, Pet Check and several others out there, I wonder when GPS tracking of your dog will become the norm instead of just a novelty.

This place has been put on my bucket list.  Beautiful!

Waterfall of the Goði

Welcome to Goðafoss...  This is one amazing waterfall if I do say.  Because it was only 15-20 minutes from our hotel, we dropped in to shoot it a couple of times.  This is the very first frame I shot from our second visit.  Since I had been there before, I knew where I wanted to get a shot with colorful sky (and no mist on my lens), so when we arrived I hopped down here, took the shot, and went ont to find some other compositions.  I think I am getting better at being able to get the settings and focus dialed right away so I don't miss the light.

+Brian Rueb from +Aperture Academy really deserves a ton of praise for leading a spectacular photo tour for us.  We hit up many of the iconic locations for the trophy hunters, but in addition, he showed us other great places to photograph and explore.  His knowledge and experience photographing the country really showed!

I guess I should have been more specific when giving the "Go to your bed" command...
