What Does Superman's New Super Flare Power Tell Us About the Status Quo of Comics?

The world's most iconic comic book superhero has a new power! Superman can now expel all the solar energy he has stored in his cells to create a bright and destructive blast called the Super Flare! Could this new ability become a permanent change for the Man of Steel? Even though we might be used to a Superman who can fly and shoot heat vision from his eyes, he didn't have nearly all the classic powers we know when he first debuted in Action Comics #1 from 1938. And it's not just his powers and abilities that have changed over the years, either. Superman has had many new costume changes and tweaks to the S emblem until finally arriving at the classic look we know today.

Will this new Super Flare power permanently shift the status quo of the Superman, or will it simply be written away and the character restored back to the way he was before? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Great article. #madonna
Annie Lennox and Madonna have different paths. BOTH of these remarkable, self-empowered ladies' paths are valid. And we can honor and respect the choices each of the these women have made for themselves....

News of the passing of Leonard Nimoy on my birthday almost ruined it for me. But like they say, he lived long and prospered. RIP Spock.

My #Oscars predictions for some of the major categories.

Best Picture - Boyhood. I think critics (and I'm betting the Academy too) are making more out of the "filmed over 12 years to show them age in real time" gimmick then they should. It's an interesting experiment, and the cast did a fantastic job, but there isn't a compelling story here. Still, I think it will win.

Best Director - Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for Birdman. This film was probably too experimental for a lot of people. It certainly wasn't a mainstream hit, but I think it was brilliantly done, and will split the top awards with Boyhood.

Best Animated Picture - Big Hero 6. I know that How To Train Your Dragon 2 won the Golden Globe but I'm betting the Academy fixes that and Big Hero 6 wins the Oscar. :)

Best Actor - Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything. I'm kinda hoping on Michael Keaton for Birdman, and it could go either way, but I think Redmayne was perfect as Stephen Hawking and the Academy will eat it up.

Best Actress - Julianne Moore for Still Alice. I've not seen the film but she has has won every major award leading up to Oscar night (BAFTA. SAG, Globe, etc) so I think she's the safe bet here.

Best Supporting Actor - J.K. Simmons for Whiplash. Amazing actor and he totally deserves this.

Best Supporting Actress - Patricia Arquette for Boyhood. Like Julianne Moore she has been winning each major award so far and I think she will be one of several who take home awards for Boyhood.

Best Special Effects - Interstellar. Visually the film was mindblowing.

Best Original Screenplay - The Grand Budapest Hotel. I love Wes Anderson. I always bet on Wes Anderson. And if he wins it will be the first time I'm right betting on him. :p

Best Song - Glory from Selma. Everyone is rightly talking about how overlooked this film is, and black actors in general (David Oyelowo totally deserved a nomination) but in this category at least John Legend and Common got it in the bag.
