6000 attended the Day of Salvation celebration in Kiev, Ukraine on Sunday 17 September, with thousands dedicating their lives to Christ after hearing the Good News. In addition, the whole service was broadcast LIVE on social media. Of those responding, 1000 attended a dinner the following day in order to join church home-groups. This service was the culmination of two years of National Prayer in Ukraine; we continue to pray with all churches in Ukraine until God answers by delivering the nation from war and corruption, & restores peace, stability and prosperity.

Working together with Salvation Churches and its 180 associate churches, the event was three months in preparation, including two months of street evangelism by church members. Salvation Church shares our vision that people should not just attend the evangelistic service and repent, but that new converts need to be discipled. The evangelisation is only a beginning. The next step is to lead the convert through water baptism until they become active church members, on fire and winning new converts for Christ themselves. Every believer is a minister, extending the Kingdom of God.

In your time of need, call upon Jesus, He will answer you. The Psalmist said, 'I sought the Lord and He answered me: those who look to Him are radiant.'

We can all have this relationship with God. If you are sick, or crippled, in despair, alone, whoever you are, wherever you are - God will hear you, God will answer your prayer. The Bible says the very hairs on your head are numbered, that God knows your thoughts and words before they are even uttered. Our relationship with God is not about religion, it's not about ceremony - it is in knowing God as your Father.

Seven times King and Parliament called the United Kingdom to prayer during WWII. Seven times the whole nation turned out and filled the churches, including those who had not been to church in years and those who had never been. Each time God answered by a remarkable miracle of deliverance. These are desperate times spiritually in Britain. Once again, the lights are going out all over Europe, this time with a spiritual vacuum. Just as it was the economic situation in the 1930s which fomented the situation, today it is the economic and spiritual. The rise of a godless economic structure, and the spiritual vacuum of our 'post-Christian' society are allowing a flood-tide of secularism and religious extremism to threaten our very heritage.

Our only hope is through prayer - as in the war when God answered. He will again today - but we need to call every Christian, every concerned individual to pray. Pray at home, in your church, in groups in your town or city, join a national prayer group. Your prayer is effective.

We are very close now to the UK Day of Prayer, Worship and Fasting on September 8th. We are thrilled with the response, and want to thank everyone who is making the effort to attend. We also want to thank all those who are holding meetings all around the country and beyond. So, our hearts can be united, whether in London or elsewhere, we are giving a brief overview of the day...

The time will be divided into 2-hour slots, each will begin with worship. We are following the Biblical pattern of prayer in Nehemiah 1, which came from a heart burdened for his nation in a time of fast. The pattern was

1) Worship
2) Repentance
3) Returning God's Word as a basis for mercy
4) Request

God can change this nation through prayer and repentance, but we must prevail in prayer until God answers. The Bible teaches, 'If My people...' - that is you and I as believers; God is not talking about the sinner here, He says, 'If My people will humble themselves and pray... I will heal their land.' God has promised in 2 Chronicles 7.14 that if humble ourselves and pray and turn from our wicked ways, He will heal our families our communities, our society; He will deliver us from every curse; He will defeat the enemy.

In Numbers 14.20, there is an interesting example on the power of intercession on behalf of a rebellious nation. The children of Israel were encamped on the borders of the Promised Land. The ten spies had returned: all agreed it was a wonderful place, filled with an abundance of fruit and provisions, but eight spies said it was impossible to go in. The Israelites then went into open rebellion against God and grumbled against Moses. The Lord, overhearing all of this, appeared to Moses and said, "How long will these people treat Me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe Me? I will strike them down!" Moses then immediately intercedes on behalf of Israel. Following his prayer, God says to Moses, "I have pardoned, according to YOUR word". Do you see what Moses has done? Moses as an intercessor has challenged God so that instead of turning His back on His people because of their wickedness, because of their sin, God says, "Because of the intercessor I will renew My covenant, I reveal My Glory in your nation. I will send the Power of My Spirit on them, backslidden as they are, fallible as they are - because you have stood before Me!"

Are you so full of pain and sickness that you are deaf to the voice of Jesus; are you unable to hear when He is talking to you? Jesus loves you - He wants to heal you, but first He wants to forgive you and set you free from the hurts of the past. I want you to believe, to trust Jesus. I want you to be free from every emotional and physical pain. But first you need to learn how to talk to Him.

Communication with God needs to come from your heart. Simply talk to Him as you would a close friend. Put your prayer books away, get a relationship with God, and He will have a relationship with you. Religion has 'hijacked' prayer and turned it into a formula. People light candles, repeat set prayers, even read what someone else has said - that is not prayer - prayer is simple communication between you and God. We sometimes have powerful prayer meetings in our office - but before we pray, I talk to the staff about what we are going to pray about, what we need. And whatever we need, it only comes from God - so we have to pray. I talk about these things with the staff first, and God is present, He's the unseen guest, the silent listener to every conversation. I know God is there, God is listening. Before we ask, He's already heard everything; He knows what is in our hearts, what we think, what we want, what we need, but He wants us to put it into words (Matthew 6.5-8).

The first sign of a breakdown in a marriage is when you don't talk, no communication. It's the same with God. Don't use meaningless repetitions, God already knows what you need. But you've got to speak from your heart; reading prayers is not talking to Him. As a married man, you don't talk to your wife from a book. My wife would not have married me if my only communication was from a book. She wanted to know what I think! It's the same with God. Depression and all our other problems - let's talk it through with God! God has an answer!

I pray that you will understand the greatness of Christ's love: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephesians 3.18, Romans 8.38-39)

How difficult it is to really believe; to take Jesus at His Word often requires a faith beyond our ability to believe. I believe in prayer and in a God of miracles, but when I was diagnosed with lung cancer in December 2002, I was faced with a challenge: do I really believe God or not?

Believing in God is not something intellectual, it is real and practical; if you are a believer in the Words of Jesus, your life is the evidence of that belief. I believe in God, I believe in Jesus Christ, but more than that, I know Jesus is the Son of God, I know Jesus is alive. I know Jesus heals the sick because He has healed me twice of cancer. I know He works miracles because He set me free from a communist prison. We need to turn what we believe into something we KNOW!

I would say that if you want to please God, there is one thing that gives more glory to God than anything else, one thing that will please Him more than anything else. Even in human relationships, whether in marriage or in business or just in friendship, if that relationship is not built on a mutual trust between the partners, sooner or later it will fail. Yet that trust is probably one of the hardest things to establish and the easiest to lose. When you say that you believe God, when you have faith in Him (Hebrews 11:6), it means you trust Him more than anybody in Heaven or on earth. This brings more glory to God than anything else, because it is the only basis of a permanent lasting relationship and means you are saying to Him, "I know You cannot fail me, because You are God!" When you really believe what He says, this will change your life.

'The official pleaded, "Lord, please come now before my little boy dies." Then Jesus told him, "Go back home. Your son will live!" And the man believed what Jesus said and started home. While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well. He asked them when the boy begun to get better, and they replied, "Yesterday afternoon at one o'clock his fever suddenly disappeared!" Then the father realised that that was the very time Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." And he and his entire household believed in Jesus.' (John 4:49-53)

Matthew 8.23, 'Jesus entered into a ship... and behold there arose a great storm in the sea, so much that the ship was covered with the waves, but Jesus was asleep. His disciples woke Him, saying, "Lord, save us, we're going to die!" And He said, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith!" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm. The men marvelled, and said, "What kind of Man is this?"'

The disciples thought they knew who Jesus was: they had already worked with Him for some time and witnessed some of the most amazing miracles; they were also the closest friends Jesus had. Yet something was to happen which caused them to question who Jesus really was; it was as if they had never known who He was before. Prior to working for Jesus, some of the disciples had been accomplished fishermen. They were accustomed to the waves and the wind; they knew how to safely sail a boat through stormy seas, but on this night, the storm was so great even these strong men feared for their lives, so much so, they woke Jesus up for fear of drowning.

In this story in Matthew, the disciples marvelled at Jesus - they didn't realise they had this kind of Man in the boat with them! They were astonished, what kind of Man is this, He's got so much power - He doesn't just work healing miracles - but the wind and the waves obey Him! I want to tell you today, Jesus is the Lord of Heaven and earth, and He still works miracles - He is the Son of the Living God! And He's my Jesus! He's real!

'I know the greatness of the Lord - that our God is greater than any other god. The Lord does whatever pleases Him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He send the lightning with the rain and the releases the wind from his storehouses.' (Psalm 135.8-7)

All of us have been damaged, injured, by the sorrow in our lives; the pain, the fears, the sin in our lives which keep us from God, all these things mark us, they leave an imprint. Jesus wants to come alongside you, to walk with you and ease your heartache. He is a constant companion along life's narrow way, the voice which guides and directs.

'That same day two of Jesus' followers were walking to the village of Emmaus. As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. Suddenly, Jesus Himself came along and began walking besides them. Noticing the sadness written across their faces, Jesus asked, "What are you concerned about?"' (Luke 24.13-15)

I am very concerned by the distress and division in Britain: it is affecting everyone from the Government to the smallest communities in the farthest corners of the nation. The Bible teaches, 'If My people...' that is you and I as believers, 'will humble themselves and pray... I will heal their land.'

I want to encourage you to join me for a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Britain on Friday 8 September, 10.30am-8.00pm at Emmanuel Centre, London. Admission is free but registration is required by emailing: dovetailshalom@btinternet.com
