Wellness Tip #7

Ditch the Sugary Food

Sugary foods are not part of a healthy diet, mostly because they’re processed, void of nutrients, and can be addicting. Instead of choosing something with sugar, have an apple, some berries, a banana, an orange, or just enjoy sweet veggies like carrots instead. Your body will learn to love the taste of fresh vegetables and fruits when you give it a chance. Sugar ages your skin, messes with your digestion, makes you moody, tired, and doesn’t satisfy your appetite.

Ditch it; you’ll feel much better in no time!

Processed sugar is found everywhere, even in the least expected places. Salad dressings, bread, chips, it’s added to dried fruit or canned soups and fruits, and even found in healthy organic items like non-dairy milk and vegan cereals, cereal bars, and non-dairy ice cream.

Wellness Tip #6

Use Herbs Instead of All the Salt

Instead of shaking salt on all your food, try using herbs to flavor them instead. For breakfast, use cinnamon, cardamom and ginger for a sweet and spicy flavor.

For lunch, use Italian seasonings, sage, black pepper, and/or cayenne and turmeric.

For dinner, try some garam masala, pepper, oregano, basil, and thyme. Mix these up however you like, but use them more often; they’re some of the best ingredients that provide antioxidants, mood-boosting benefits, and even anti-cancer benefits. They also reduce blood pressure levels, unlike excess salt that can lead to hypertension.

While there are plenty of inspiring herb-centric recipes from all over the world to explore. You don’t need any special instructions or culinary skills to get more herbs into your life. You can simply add them to foods you are already making.

Here are 10 ways to get you started:
1. Add chopped fresh or dried parsley or dill to your scrambled eggs.
2. Tuck a few leaves of mint and/or basil into your ham or turkey sandwich.
3. Pile fresh cilantro leaves onto your turkey or veggie burger.
4. Toss handfuls of fresh tender herbs — parsley, basil, cilantro, mint — into your basic green salad, treating them more like a lettuce than a seasoning.
5. Add a generous pinch of dried oregano or thyme to your vinaigrette-type salad dressing.
6. Mix a handful of fresh Italian parsley or dill into your boiled or mashed potatoes.
7. Rub a mix of dried rosemary and thyme onto your chicken breast before grilling.
8. Muddle fresh mint or basil leaves in a glass then fill with iced tea or sparkling water and a twist of citrus.
9. Spruce up jarred pasta sauce with a handful of fresh chopped basil leaves.
10. Stir fresh basil, parsley or mint leaves with grilled zucchini or sauteed green beans.
