Interview with Mr. Bob Cassels, referral marketing specialist
Mr. Bob why did you decide to start your own business?
• Grew up around entrepreneurs
• Took aptitude test and I was identified as having an aptitude to be an ideal entrepreneur
• Worked at Maclean Hunter, then Rogers, in advertising and saw there was a need
• I am always being asked for my marketing advice
How did you feel to actually get your new venture up and running?
• Excited, empowered and energized
• Powerful – no one can stop me, no fear - motivated

What were some of the challenges you faced in launching your new business venture?
• Needed a better business plan
• Made assumptions based on past experiences – more market research should have been done
• Started in Toronto and moved to Barrie – vastly different economic environment
• I believed I could do my business alone
Mr. Bob, what are some of the rewards you have experienced as a result of starting your own business?
• Every day I am energized and pumped about my business.

• Every day I am I am up early to go to my business
If I had to do it all over again, what, if anything, would I do differently?
• I would join groups that have successful entrepreneurs
• Pay more attention to leaders and listen to their stories
• Join Toastmasters earlier
• Listen to information and don’t filter it using my interpretation
• Hang out with folks who arre motivated in taking their businesses to the next level
In my opinion, what is the single most important key to success when launching your business venture?
• Moving to being an entrepreneur is not a 9 to 5 business; it is 24/7 especially in the first 2 years
Read E- Myth by Gerber - it is a really good starting point for those who may want to start their own business
• There are no days off. Your business is your passion.
What advice would you give a young entrepreneur, aspiring entrepreneur like me?
• Get involved be a leader - Job shadow successful entrepreneurs and identify their successes and failures
• Build a living business plan that is updated and reviewed regularly – create a road map of where you are going
• Get folks to join in your business - build Raving Fans =- Ken Blanchard
Can you add anything else that might help me as I examine the opportunity to become an entrepreneur?
Don’t try to be everything to everyone! Specialize in the one area in which you add value. It is not about what you’re doing, it is about the value and the results which you generate for your customers
