Aspiring writers often ask established authors, "How did you do it?" The truth is that there is no single path to literary success. We sent a nonscientific survey to writers participating in the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books: Did they keep a diary as a child? Did they ever have a book rejected? Did they earn a living from writing? We tabulated more than 200 responses to make a board game. Roll a die and see where the writing life takes you.

After visiting more than 2,000 independent bookstores—at least virtually—the Amazon annihilation, Orwell misquotes and all, doesn’t seem quite so inescapable.

Precisely. Swastika was extremely popular sign since the late XIXth century. Was used as an ornament in architecture, emblem sign for military units of many european countries, even last Tsar of Russia had a one on his car - so please do not act as Pavlov's dog and see Nazis everywhere.

To fly off store shelves, it helps if a book has a good calling card – a cover that first grabs your attention (amid a world filled with attention grabbers) and then makes you want to leaf through the pages. Indeed, cover design is a fine art unto itself, filled with metaphor and, in the end, making the book look good on your own shelf
