Located one block from Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Studios and perfectly centered between City Hall and the United Center, Wishbone West Loop was an early participant in the emergence of the neighborhood from a commercial area to one of the city's culinary hot spots. We've been there through it all, quietly serving our own unique brand of Southern Reconstruction cooking.

We had a reservation for 15 people on Mothers Day, 2015. This reso. was made 3 weeks ahead of time. When we arrived, they did not have our reservation and were very pre-occupied with the masses of people who were waiting in line. They told us we would have to wait 1 hour + for a table. No apologies were given either. We will never return to Wishbone. We were able to get a guaranteed table at DeLuxe at 669 N. Milwaukee Avenue. We have gone to DeLuxe for years. THEY NEVER DISAPPOINT. Don't know why we ever tried for Wishbone!

Food was bland. For being considered a cajun restaurant, it tasted like nothing. I also didn't know this was a place to take your kids, which I can't necessarily count against the restaurant, but I wasn't a big fan of the kids running around screaming the entire time I was there.

Wishbone is a unique, family friendly, bustling restaurant with Southern/Cajan flavor. A wide variety with many vegetarian choices too. I make a special trip into the city for Hoppin'Jack, shrimp grits, strawberry lemon aid and chocolate pecan pie. A simple thing, sautéed spinach, one would think you could get it anywhere. Not so. I've tried! Choose either olive oil or butter with a hint of lemon juice. The spinach comes hot, barely wilted. Delicious! Everything is made from scratch. I've been going for years for breakfast or brunch. I understand it's now open for dinner. Service is fast and friendly. One caution, tables are close together and it can be noisy. So it's not the best place for a private intimate conversation.

I ordered the classic eggs benedict and a Bloody Mary, which I often do for brunch. The bloody was a bit washed out and bland. Could do better elsewhere. I enjoyed my eggs mainly because the ham is sliced thick, but the hollandaise sauce wasn't anything special. Very standard, could do better on presentation.

I had the crunchy french toast for breakfast here and it was amazing! It's made with thick bread and each piece is dipped in corn flakes. Pair that with and orange julius and that's one incredible Southern style breakfast. They do not take reservations so be prepared to wait during breakfast/brunch hours on the weekends. The service was polite and prompt despite being slammed. I'll definitely be back!

Always consistently good, great breakfast food. Try the juice with carrots and orange, its super refreshing. The staff are very nice and the line moves really quick. A great choice for brunch when you don't have the patience to wait 2 hours at the west loop spots down the street.

I recently ate at this restaurant after passing by it for years. First, let me state that the location itself is pretty awesome and it is fun to hang out and be surrounded by the outrageous and oversized art. Really, go just to look at the way it is decorated. The flower inspired light fixtures are a thing of beauty. But this isn't about the decor, right? Unfortunately, the food I ordered didn't live up to my expectations. I had the chicken fried steak with the biscuit and side of cheese grits. The steak didn't have much flavor, and are cheese grits suppose to be a solid, gelatinous form that takes the shape of the cup they're served in? I really don't know, it was my first time having grits and probably my last time if they're always like that. I expected the food to taste as colorful as the restaurant, but I was disappointed by all save for the strawberry lemonade which was AMAZING. The rest of my family had the home fries and everyone raved about them. But it seems like we all had just one thing in our order that was really good. The service was cheerful and quick and I can't fault them for the lackluster food.

Wishbone is one of my favorite brunch spots. The grits with shrimp is superb, the french toast is very good, wait i like most of what they serve here. I have never eaten dinner here, but brunch here is very good.
