Nine million people lack access to an improved water source in Uganda. This is almost one-third of the country's population. The tropical climate of Uganda brings significant amounts of rain, especially during the rainy season (now) making useful rain catchment tanks. Here, Nalubega draws water from her catchment tank that sits just outside her home. Pleased with the solution Nalubega shared, "Acquiring a water storage tank has enabled me to harvest rain water and now I have an abundant water supply for my family."

Gary White, Co-Founder & CEO of Water.org, has been working to improve lives with access to safe water for more than twenty years. These two decades of experience led Gary to realize that the traditional cycle of philanthropy would never solve the water crisis for every person on the planet. There had to be a better path. Watch to learn more about the better path. ‪#‎waterislife‬

Water.org is committed to bringing safe water to the more than 103M people across India who lack access. Kontala lives in the Indian state of Orissa. She has had access to safe water at home for just over a year now. Together with her neighbor, the two women took out a WaterCredit loan to construct this hand pump. Now, Kontala, her neighbor, and their families have safe water for drinking, cooking and bathing.

Glass ceilings aside, millions of women are prohibited from accomplishing little more than survival. Not because of a lack of ambition, or ability, but because of a lack of safe water and adequate sanitation. It is estimated that women and children spend 140 million hours each day collecting water. For these reasons, Water.org looks forward to the day ‪#‎everymom‬ has access to safe water.

In honor of women, mothers, and caregivers around the world, we hope you will share and help make others aware.

Only 140,000,000? It's gotta be more than that. Over a billion people lack basic plumbing. Unless men predominantly collect water (unlikely, given their frequent position as breadwinner), women and children would spend a significant amount of time collecting water.

Uni is unsure of her exact age, she doesn't know what caused her daughter to die, and frankly she doesn't know what the next day holds. However, one thing she can be certain of is that soon, she will have access to safe water at home. [READ] her story: http://water.org/post/waiting-water/   #waterislife

Water.org looks forward to the day that together, we can help end extreme poverty. We believe access to safe water and improved sanitation underpins the progress women and girls can make when seeking a way out of poverty. Today we stand ‪#‎WithStrongGirls‬ and honor their strength and potential because when empowered, women and girls can define their own futures and change the world. ‪

From Matt Damon: Lead Actor for Water - "Lack of clean water affects about 750 million on the planet. In addition to the obvious health concerns, Damon is of the opinion that we cannot solve poverty without first solving the water problem. He’s no armchair critic either, having seen the water crisis first-hand by meeting with people in a number of different countries affected by the water crisis"... Read more from this story Via Real Leaders.
More people have access to cellphones than to clean water. This is a shocking fact in a world that has the technology and financial means to resolve one of humanity’s most basic problems, but in which we have failed to apply the solutions. Actor Matt Damon started Water.org to promote lasting solutions rather than a …

Safe water & the dignity of a toilet for all, in our lifetime.
Introduction

The water and sanitation problem in the developing world is far too big for charity alone. We are driving the water sector for new solutions, new financing models, greater transparency, and real partnerships to create lasting change. Our vision: the day when everyone in the world can take a safe drink of water.

Co-founded by Matt Damon and Gary White, Water.org is a nonprofit organization that has transformed hundreds of communities in Africa, South Asia, and Central America by providing access to safe water and sanitation.
