"Until we have open hardware to go with open software, we’ll never have truly open computing. One project hoping to change this is LowRISC. This project is attempting to design and produce an open system on a chip (SoC) that could be used as the heart of a Linux computer".

#open #hardware
Discover a project that's hoping to get us one step close to a completely open computer. It doesn't matter how open or free your software is, the only hardware available today is closed and proprietary. This closed hardware could be used to compromise the freedom of computer use in many ways.

Ubuntu spotted in a display in University de Zaragoza. At least it's not a Blue Screen of Death or kernel error ;) Via +Fernando Tricas García.

This is a work in progress: a hack to Visualino (my visual programming environment for Arduino) for the Pi. This version has blocks to control the Sense HAT in the Raspberry Pi, and generates Python code instead of C++ (thanks that Blockly supports it!).

«The Intel® NUC DE3815TY is an ideal IOT development platform! It’s got enough computing power to prototype for all embedded use cases with an Intel® Atom Processor. It also offers a lot of IOs and configuration options: USB ports, I2C ports, 4Gb eMMC and the possibility to add a wireless card, up to 8G of RAM and a 2.5 inch HDD or SSD. Now, with the availability of snappy Ubuntu Core, developers have the possibility to simply bring the rich ecosystem of Ubuntu apps onto the Intel® NUC and into the embedded space».

#iot #intel #ubuntu #ubuntucore
Over the last few months Canonical and Intel have been working together to create a standard platform for developers to test and create x86-based IOT solutions using snappy Ubuntu Core. The results are here today and we’re pleased to announce the availability of the Ubuntu Core images for the Intel® NUC DE3815TY on our developer site. We focused on the Intel® NUC for its relatively low cost point for a starter platform (around $150) and broad ava...

«In this release we are shipping an experimental OpenGL driver for the desktop which uses the GPU to provide hardware acceleration. This is turned off by default – if you want to enable it, you can find it in the command-line version of raspi-config, under Advanced Options->GL Driver. Due to memory requirements, this will not work on Pi 1 or Pi Zero boards – it is solely for Pi 2».

New version of Visualino is out! This time it's version 0.7. It includes bug fixes and new features. Among them, blocks for millis() and typed variables and support for zooming. This version is also available for armhf platform, so it can be installed in the Raspberry Pi 2.

Go to http://www.visualino.net/ to download it. Release notes: http://visualino.net/forum/index.php/topic,21.0.html

LOL. In this particular case, it doesn't make much sense, but it was the only adapter of that type available at the store :(
