The original Mast General Store is located in Valle Crucis on Highway 194, just inside Pisgah National Forest.

It's open to visitors Monday-Saturday 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Sunday 12-6 p.m.

- Narrow stairs have a handrail only on one side, two-way traffic, and a landing every 31 steps
