Eight of the old-fashioned ships known as windjammers offer overnight trips off Maine’s midcoast, from Boothbay Harbor to Bar Harbor, all promising convivial company, beautiful scenery and good food. I was drawn to the Lewis R. French for its history — built in 1871, it’s one of the oldest windjammers — and its sense of humor.
