Leading TV Wildlife expert Michaela Strachan warns that Hedgehogs will be gone in a decade. Hedgehogs are relatively easy to protect. Placing food out for them in your garden will aid in their survival by building up fat reserves for the winter months. It is due to urbanisation that the population has declined, so simple ways like digging small holes underneath your fences will allow them to pass between gardens easily will help them.

We often see Tufted Ducks in pairs on our Fenland rivers and drains in May. They will be looking for nesting sites as they don't start nesting until the end of may

There is never a dull moment when feeding live mealworms in May. Nicholas feeds live mealworms in a cage which the Starlings cannot enter, but they do wait outside to try and mug those coming out. When a bird comes out a top hole of the cage, they get away without being contested

Voles are in short supply at the moment, so Barn Owls are having to fly in the daytime. Nicholas came across this one on Saturday evening which had caught a large Vole and took over a minute to swallow it http://ow.ly/i/aREi8 http://ow.ly/i/aREid

Breeding birds need our help more than ever when the weather turns wet and cold. Natural insects will go into hiding. Feeding live food in your garden will really help the adult birds feed their young with the moist food they require.
