Red

I haven't been posting lately partly due to my crashed hard drive.  I almost lost 2 years worth of photos!  Fortunately I found a software to recover almost all the RAW files, but I had to filter and reprocess 16,177 from scratch.

This was taken inside a quasi-museum in Scotland last Summer.  I forgot the name, but it looked like red a church from outside.  It was actually nearby the Edinburgh Castle.  I've been to the castle twice, but this was the first time I explored this structure.  Hopefully I'll begin to post more frequently now that things are starting to get back to normal.

How a Blind Person Uses a Cane
As I was leaving the Starbucks drive-through, I noticed a blind man standing at the exit.  I stopped to let him pass, but he walked straight towards my car.  After talking to him, I learned that he thought the drive-through was the street pavement.  I told him it was a few steps over and moved out of the way for him to get there.

I've always been impressed by blind people moving around so accurately with the cane, but never really knew the technique.  If you blindfold me and give me a cane, you will find me in a ditch shortly afterwards.

Maureen Bassmaster described in details how she used the cane to help her get around.  I never thought that the tip of the cane was used to determine various ground textures.  She also used the echo generated from it to detect objects nearby.  There are other "How a blind..." videos from her channel in case you want to learn more.

Here's a trivia.  According to Wikipedia, the white cane was first introduced by a photographer, James Biggs, who became blind after an accident.  Being concerned about the traffic around his house, he painted his walking stick white for high noticeability.

Purple Haze
The sun doesn't set until around 8:30PM in UK. I usually wandered around without looking at the time, then realized it was already 9PM when it got dark. The restaurants and bars were already crowded as I left Westfield Mall. This was what I saw up in the sky.
The beautiful rich hue from the sunset reminded me of the song, Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. In the process of looking it up on Youtube, I found this talented performer called Jess Greenberg doing a cover of it. Coincidentally Jimi wrote the song in London and Jess lives there too. Here's London King's Cross train station early in the morning. I posted a photosphere earlier, but this one is a regular version.

I've been MIA for awhile, but have not lost touch with the art world. Is anyone planning to go museums hopping this Saturday? I'm itching for some clicking and drinking. 😁

Should I trade my Canon 6D for a Sony a7?
Has anyone taken advantage of this Amazon Trade-in program yet?  I'm debating whether to trade in my 6D for an a7.  I like the 6D and I think it's more robust than an a7, but the overall weight is an inconvenience as a daily driver.  Sony has a $255-$375 discount if you take advantage of this program.  Evidently this promo has been going on for awhile but I just found out yesterday.  Unfortunately it expires in a few days so I don't have much time to consider.  Please chime in if you've gone through the process.

Thanks for all your input.  Since I'm not doing video, it will likely be a7 or a7r like +Ted G.Gil mentioned.  I've created a trade-in request with Amazon,  but haven't sent in my 6D yet.  I'm hesitating because I can't bear the thought of selling all my Canon gear at significant loss. =(  For now, photography is a hobby so I don't want to spend anymore to switch.  Do you know if Sony is in the habit of giving rebates to entice people to buy their products?  The current rebate is expiring 8/16 and I can't make up my mind.

My selfie didn't work out as I expected, so let me tell you a little about the building in the background.  :-)  The pointy tower is called The Shard. It's the tallest building in the European Union currently at 1,004 ft! You can find out more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shard

Generation Gap

The older I get, the more I understand why my parents and people their age acted certain ways. But I still can't understand many of their logics. Although I've been a kid once, I wish the kids around me don't act foolishly like how I was at that age. I wish they grow up soon, or even skip that phase altogether to spare me the miseries. :-)

Seems like there will always be a generation gap regardless how old one is.

I'm excited that this photo has been viewed 1.5 million times (and still counting), but just curious why it became active after 2 years.  My photos usually get all of the views within the 1st week of being posted, then they would become dormant afterwards.

Anyway, I'm happy that people enjoy this photo.  Hopefully they can explore Vietnam through the others in my #RediscoverVietnam series.

What's Nostalgic for You?

Per my previous post, this image brings back my sweet childhood memory before I emigrated to the US. The French had built many of Vietnam's old schools. If I remember correctly, this one was built in 1937. Even after 75 years, it still retains the same blue and beige colors (for lack of words).

Here's for you +CamMi Pham =)

Please feel free to explore other photos in my #rediscovervietnam series.

There are so many fascinating things in life, so there's always something to appreciate.  The majority of my posts are related to photography & music, but they may include a combination of the interests below:

  • The little things in life that make you smile. =)
Seeing so many inspirations around me, I started a personal effort to post something motivational or inspirational every week called Motivation Monday.  I don't know how many people find it useful, but I'm happy if just one person is moved by it.

I started a little project to showcase the beauty of Vietnam and its culture.  You may check it out at #RediscoverVietnam.

The question "How do you make fire from ice?" is quite powerful.  It forces me to think beyond what has an obvious answer of "It's not possible".  The result can be considered as creativity.
