UOW is coming to Western Sydney!

We're thrilled to announce a new UOW campus in Liverpool, with courses commencing from February 2017.

Eventually offering degrees from all five UOW faculties, as well as university entry and vocational training programs, UOW plans to grow the campus to more than 7,000 students by 2030.

At an age when most teenagers are focusing on their HSC, 16-year-old Jessica Sparks was lying in a hospital bed with end stage lung disease.

After a four-year wait, the call finally came that the former representative netball player would receive a life-saving double lung transplant.

“I had come to a point where I had accepted that if I went, I went. To be in that position and to have come through that it gives you a whole new perspective on life. All these hopes and dreams that I had before became possible again.”

Growing up with ADHD, Canadian native Kevin Rourke knows first hand how difficult school can be for some kids.

The final year #UOW medical student has spent the past few years based in the Shoalhaven region and has witnessed the high rate of mental health issues among younger people. In response, he has designed a free fitness program for local high school students in the hope of boosting their mental wellbeing.

Inspired by personal experiences, PhD student Lauren Bell is developing methods to take the guesswork out of cancer radiotherapy.

Using data sets based on previous patient scans, Lauren’s research is helping to improve the accuracy of the radiation required to treat the disease.

Researchers at #UOW’s Institute for Superconducting & Electronic Materials (ISEM) have developed a high-capacity battery based on cheap and plentiful sodium, one of the Earth’s most abundant elements.

Their sodium-ion battery has a capacity close to double that of current sodium-ion technology and comparable to state-of-the-art and commonly used lithium-ion batteries.

Researchers from UOW have developed a first-of-its-kind interactive website that allows users to map ‘dementia friendly places’ in their local area.

‘Our Place’ is designed to assist people with dementia and their supporters to share local knowledge about places in their neighbourhood that are enabling for people with dementia. It also allows users to shares ideas about places that could be improved.
