The Cooper Center’s newest population projections for the nation and individual states show slow-but-steady growth, with the highest increase in the number of residents over 65. Lower birth rates and decreased immigration will contribute to this trend.

For the third year in a row, UVA ranks in the top five schools of its size for Peace Corps volunteers.
They’re teaching English in Madagascar, helping high schoolers lead healthier lives in Nicaragua and running university classes for Chinese ethnic minorities. And they’ve made UVA one of the Peace Corps’ top volunteer sources three years running.

A new study from doctoral candidates in UVA’s Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics argues that the additional votes brought in by a vice presidential candidate’s home state may be enough to swing a tight presidential election.

Introduction
The University of Virginia is distinctive among institutions of higher education. Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University sustains the ideal of developing, through education, leaders who are well-prepared to help shape the future of the nation. The University is public, while nourished by the strong support of its alumni. It is also selective; the students who come here have been chosen because they show the exceptional promise Jefferson envisioned.
