The Grant Museum of Zoology’s treasured quagga skeleton is now standing on four legs again, thanks to some fantastic work with UCL Bartlett and the Royal Veterinary College.

The project saw the production of a replacement 3D-printed leg (coloured black in the image below), based on a scan of the original remaining hind leg in a CT machine.

The volume of Arctic sea ice increased by a third after the summer of 2013 as the unusually cool air temperatures prevented the ice from melting, according to UCL and University of Leeds scientists.

This suggests that the ice pack in the Northern hemisphere is more sensitive to changes in summer melting than it is to winter cooling, a finding that will help researchers to predict future changes in its volume. Find out more: http://bit.ly/1LA1JnF

Research by UCL and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine shows that switching off street lights at night does not increase car crashes and crime:

“The findings suggest that energy saving street lighting adaptations have not increased area level crime in the neighbourhoods studied. This is very encouraging but it is important to note that it does not mean that this will be the case under all conditions, and so changes to lighting should be managed carefully.” – Professor Shane Johnson (UCL Security and Crime Science).

The recently opened Cruciform Hub, housed within one of UCL’s most iconic buildings – the Cruciform Building.

The Grade II listed building was formerly part of University College London Hospital; it was designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1896, opened in 1906 and closed in 1995, before being occupied by UCL for teaching and research.
