“Every year, 1.5 million children die because they weren’t vaccinated.”

Our work won’t end until this number is ZERO.
April 24-30 is World Immunization Week – a good time to renew our commitment to protecting all children from preventable diseases.

Dylin Cortez was nine months pregnant when Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Philippines. As the storm surge rushed into the house she shared with her husband and six children, the water quickly rose up to her neck.

“I thought I was going to deliver the baby, because my stomach was stiffening,” says Ms. Cortez. “I prayed, ‘God, please don’t let my baby be born today.’ I’d rather die quickly than let my baby go through all this.”

While an estimated 35 to 67 million people live with autism around the world, children with autistic conditions often lack adequate support and have limited access to services such as schools and health care. They also face discrimination and suffer from abuse and isolation.

Known as the cold chain, the system of transport for temperature-sensitive vaccines was already fragile before Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, destroying health centres and disrupting basic health services like immunization. Now UNICEF is helping to restore the cold chain and ensure the routine vaccination of children.

Introduction
UNICEF has been part of Malaysia's journey, since 1954, to promote and protect the rights of children, focusing on the poorest, hardest-to-reach and most marginalised. Working with partners from Government, communities, NGOs, private sector, and the media, we seek to support the Tenth Malaysia Plan to ensure equity and inclusion for all children.
