“Education is the priority,” says Saba, a 16-year-old Syrian refugee living in Zaatari camp: http://bit.ly/2aZ3Vcb

Saba is part of a group of advocates against early marriage who reach out to young men and women to explain the benefits of staying in school and delaying married life. She embodies the idea of a girl boss and we’re excited to call her our #WomanCrushWednesday!

Not every girl has the same dream, but every girl should have the opportunity to make her dream a reality!

Working together, we can empower young women and girls to transform their lives and realize the future they desire for themselves. This ‪#‎TransformationTuesday‬, tell us what dream you hope to make a reality in the comments section below.

“Football is my life. When I play football, I forget about the past because it keeps my mind occupied. I also make new friends,” says Mike, from South Sudan.

Weeks after violence erupted in South Sudan, Mike fled for his life. He found safe haven in the Ayilo Refugee Settlement in northern Uganda. Now, his love for the beautiful game helps him look positively into the future.

Football isn’t one of the sports that #teamrefugees will compete in, but if it was, Mike would definitely have made the team!

"When you understand the problems your daughter could suffer if she's married too early, your conscience can't allow the sacrifice."

These are the words of a mother who decided against marrying off her 14-year old daughter after visiting a UNFPA-supported women’s center in Burkina Faso.

“My biggest concern as a teenager is pregnancy,” says 14-year-old Jamilly in Salvador, Brazil.

#DidYouKnow: Every day in developing countries, 20,000 girls under age 18 give birth? This amounts to 7.3 million births a year. When a girl like Jamilly becomes pregnant, her life can change radically: “If I got pregnant early, I would lose my youth and my dream to finish my studies,” she says.

To prevent adolescent pregnancy and help ensure that girls like Jamilly can fulfill their dreams and full potential, we’re working with governments, civil society and youth-led organizations to extend access to sexual and reproductive health information, counselling and services to young people in more than 150 countries around the world.

“Cervical cancer is a disease of great inequities that mainly affects the most vulnerable groups of women,” says Dr. Macarena Pérez Castells.

Together with +World Health Organization, we have trained 100 nurses and midwives to perform lifesaving screenings for cervical cancer in Haiti, where the disease often goes undetected until it’s too late.

“I’m very happy that I will now get the services free of charge.”

‘Mantina and other factory workers in Lesotho are now able to access health services at the new UNFPA-supported mobile clinic, which operates five days a week. The mobile clinic serves 22 factories and offers family planning, antenatal clinics, and the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

MAPUTSOE, Lesotho – For women working in garment factories in Maputsoe, about 80 kilometres from the capital city Maseru, visits to a health facility were typically rare. This was in part due to their fear of losing pay due to absences from work. But since February, this scenario has changed.

“I was sold more than once,” says Resalah*, one of the thousands of Yazidi women who have been kidnapped and sold into slavery by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). A United Nations Human Rights panel has determined that the ongoing violence against the Yazidis amounts to genocide.

Since escaping captivity, Resalah meets regularly with social workers at the UNFPA-supported Shanaz Women’s Social Centre. You can’t see her face, but you can read her story here: http://bit.ly/2aHCdS5

“The pain was so much I blacked out.”

Tabitha, an educated woman in her 20s, is one of at least 100 civilians to be sexually assaulted in the wake of the country’s most recent hostilities. In response to these unspeakable acts of violence, we are working to ensure that survivors of sexual assault receive comprehensive, compassionate and confidential care.
