#‎Prison‬ safety is in 'rapid deterioration', with violence, self-harm and suicide all on the rise, says a Justice Committee report. It says prison safety is a matter that 'cannot wait', noting 2,690 assaults against staff in the six months to December 2015, an increase of 18%, and that there are 7,000 fewer officers than in 2010. Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham was born #OnThisDay in 1730. He was #PrimeMinister from 1765 to 1766 and in 1782. A major piece of legislation passed during his time in politics was The Catholic Relief Act 1778. Introduced to #Parliament by Sir George Saville, it dismantled some of the penal laws aimed at Roman Catholics. It enabled them to own land, inherit property and join the army.
