On the 25 March 1807, Parliament abolished the slave trade and this is commemorated internationally with a day of remembrance for the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade. http://goo.gl/3FMMfc
Slavery was completely abolished in 1833 (in the British Empire), yet it apparantly wasn't necessary to abolish in homes. Until the 6th April 2010, however, which is when all slavery was banned in the UK, on pain of up to 14 years in prison.
