I rented a Uhaul on Saturday, 9/12/15 and returned it on that same date at the same pick-up location with contract number 24359860 and truck # DC1548K. On Monday, 9/14/15, I realized I had left a transparent zipped envelope in the Uhaul truck. I contacted Rijen Automotive /Rijen Tag & Title Service and spoke with a representative. He told me my envelope was given to the man in the brown Cadillac that dropped off the truck. I advised the rep that I personally dropped off the truck and did not know anyone in a brown Cadillac. He persisted that I should talk to my friend in the brown Cadillac, after again explaining that I did not know anyone whom drives a brown Cadillac; it was relayed that the truck was re-rented. The resolution to my problem was: Rijen Tag & Title Service would reach out to the other customer to retrieve my belongings and give me a call.
On Tuesday, 9/15/15, I called Rijen Tag & Title Service and was told the customer was contacted and she would relay to her friend to bring the transparent envelope to the Uhaul dealer. I was advised that I would get a call back once my belongings arrived. I did not receive a call back. I gave them some time and decided to call later in the week.
On Friday, 9/18/15, I called the Uhaul dealer and spoke with a different representative whom barely spoke any English. At that time, I was told the manager who worked directly with the other customer was out of the office and would return my call within the next hour. I never received a phone call. I called again on Friday, 9/18/15 and was told the manager would give me a call. I never received a call. I have contacted the U-Haul Dealer Network and the U-Haul Corporate/ Regional offices but to no avail “there isn’t anything they can do to help.” The corporate office said that the truck is cleaned after every rental which in this case, the truck was not cleaned after my use because the envelope was left out in the open, on the center console. The truck was only cleaned after the renter following me.
At this time, I am extremely irate with the way my issue is being handled. I understand that it was my fault that my belongings were left behind however; the situation could be resolved with a simple follow-up call from the manager or even if they could connect me with the other customer. It is imperative that I retrieve the transparent envelope because it houses receipts from my move. I need these receipts in order to be presented in court in October. I would like a phone call or an email with a resolution to this issue ASAP!
