"Maniac", a 'weird' and 'mind bending' drama starts today on Netflix! Starring (among other big names) Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, this 10 episode series follows a group of people trailing a new drug to cure their ills, but what will the side effects be?

Getting rave reviews for its style and structure as much as its story and acting kudos, the show is the best of how Netflix is looking to shake up 'television'. Stranger Things showed us they can reinvent the wheel, and Maniac seems to be progressing beyond even that.

With episodes of wildly varying length, this should be a must for your binge watching pleasure this weekend, because in a few short days, the main TV season starts! Yey!

Will you be watching this show? Or is "standard" TV still more your thing? What are you wait for to return next week? What ever shows you watch, make sure you track them on the TV Calendar!

Marvels Iron Fist returns for Season 2 on Netflix today!

With a shorter episode run, 10 compared to 13 previously, hopefully the story can be smoother and less repetitive. Also, Danny got a hair cut as seen recently in Luke Cage, which was 90% of my OHs issue with the character. Here's hoping Netflix have learned their lesson.

Will you be watching this one, or was Season 1 enough to put you off the character? Can we just get a new season of The Punisher please?

Starting tonight, 2 brand new shows!
'The Purge' is an early story in the universe of the films of the same name, where the New Founding Fathers are in full control of the purge, the 12 hour period where violence and crime is overlooked. Whether this translates well to a full series remains to be seen, but if you're a fan of the movies, or horror in general, this one is probably for you.

And 'Mayans M.C.' follows on from Sons of Anarchy, now told from the rivals-turned-allies group. Ezekiel Reyes was a promising student, who got knocked into another life. After a prison sentence, he has to come to terms with being a gang prospect, while looking for vengence. Time will tell if his character lives up to the high bar set by Jax Teller in the parent show.

Dropping today on Amazon Prime, Tom Clancys Jack Ryan.
Super spy and politician (in the books anyway) Ryan is the OG Jack, coming decades before the Bauer. They share a lot of traits though, so expect action, double crossings and possibly lots of whisper talking. Just how we like it!

Reviews for the 8 episode series are looking pretty great, and the show has already been renewed for a second season, so if you can't wait for the re-re-re?-boot of 24 to happen, this might be the show for you. Also, did you catch Condor this summer? Recommended.

Also, returning today on competing streaming service Netflix, Ozark is back for season 2. More criminal dark comedy and morally suspect situations. Batemans turn as a financial advisor in over his head has shades of Breaking Bad, and season 2 looks like it will start to ramp up the danger for the Bryde family.

'Disenchantment' releases today on Netflix, and if the style of animation looks familiar, its because the show is produced by Matt Groening, of Simpsons and Futurama fame. While he still works on "The Simpsons", it has now been five years since Futurama ended and much has changed in that time.

Will Disenchantment hold up against the new, more adult fare coming from such excellent shows as "Rick and Morty" and "Final Space"? Futurama still holds up, but a lot of it hinges on nostalgia, it's likely it twisty but less edgy story telling wouldn't stand out today. Let's hope Groening has learned a few new tricks.

After months of delays, and missing the main TV season, 'Reverie' starts tonight on NBC!
Sarah Shahi teams up with Dennis Haysbert (two of my favourite actors) in a procedural show about saving people from their dreams... and in doing so might save herself. Cool.

Reverie is the "super VR" program in the show, a bit like a cross between the Trek Holodeck and Quantum Leap. When someones dream becomes more real to them than reality, how do you convince them to come "back"? Call in a hostage negotiator, of course! Preferably one without some damaging backstory of her own, but it never seems to go down like that.

I'm happy this has been pushed to summer. It sounds a bit corny, but it's one of those where the actors will be the one to sell it. And it definitely has a good line up. I'm very much looking forward to this, are you?
