At exactly 22:34 UTC on Monday, June 20, 2016, the Sun will be directly overhead the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the June Solstice. It's the longest day of the year in terms of daylight for Northern Hemisphere dwellers, and the shortest day of the year for those who live in the Southern Hemisphere.

The solstice in your local time:

The June solstice is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere & the shortest day in the Southern Hemisphere. The Sun seems to stand still for a moment before it

The next 10 days starting today, June 10, 2016, all have special dates if you write your dates in the m-dd-yy format. Each date will be a palindrome! Want to know why?
http://www.timeanddate.com/date/palindrome-day.html
A Palindrome Day occurs when the digits in a day’s date can be read the same way backwards and forwards. Depending on the date format or order Palindrome Days can be rare.

Did you know that even though it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, Earth is actually farthest away from the Sun around this time of the year?
http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/perihelion-aphelion-solstice.html
Earth is closest to the Sun two weeks after the December solstice and farthest from the Sun, two weeks after the June Solstice. The occurrences of these dates so close to each other is a coincidence and has no special significance.

Tonight's full Moon is a Blue Moon. Will it really be blue in color?
http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/moon/blue-moon.html
'Once in a blue moon', suggests something is very rare. But just how rare is a Blue Moon?
