When in San Francisco, all you have to do is "follow your nose" and it will lead you to one of The-City-By-The-Bay's most unique and entertaining dining experiences... The Stinking Rose: A Garlic Restaurant.

Located in North Beach, San Francisco's renowned Little Italy, the "original" Stinking Rose has become famous for celebrating the culinary euphoria of garlic and serving over 3,000 pounds of the pungent herb each month. Named after an historical term for "garlic", The Stinking Rose offers scrumptious, contemporary California-Italian cuisine prepared and adorned with garlic - and strives to accommodate every palate. There is hearty fare for the truly adventurous, mild for the novice, and sans garlic for those finding the herb's folklore and aroma more appealing than its taste.

And the fun goes far beyond the tantalizing choices at the table. Guests can enjoy treat-after-garlicky-treat in any of the restaurant's whimsical dining rooms decorated with colorful garlic characters, curious memorabilia and a mechanical miniature garlic factory. The world's largest garlic braid winds its way throughout the establishment, and festive murals, depicting a garlic bulb's view of San Francisco's history and culture, adorn the walls, The lovable bulbs, painted and brought to life by a local artist, can be found careening down the city's steep hills on skateboards, running road races and picnicking at Golden Gate Park. Garlic-shaped fish can even be found swimming under Fisherman's Wharf. At last count, 2,635 bulbs of garlic, two onions and one leek festooned every conceivable nook and cranny.

Small parties and large groups alike are welcome to enjoy the aromatic fare. Banquet facilities at The Stinking Rose accommodate 15 - 60 guests. Pre-set banquet menus are available. The chef is happy to customize banquet menus to serve customers' special needs.

The Stinking Rose also features an extensive selection of gift and food items for take home enjoyment. Whether you'd like to remember your visit with a colorful character t-shirt, chopped garlic or garlic sauces to liven up your home cooking, we have the selection for you. Take home a memory of the restaurant that boasts the motto: "We Season Our Garlic With Food!®"

The food was amazing and the portions were generous! If you like garlic, you will LOVE this place! Service was a bit slow, (great for a date or relaxed night out), but that allowed our food to settle, so we skipped dessert...and we did have to track down the waiter for the check!

Loved it. Nice place with lots of character. Prime rib arrived a perfect medium. Garlic ice cream with chocolate Mole sauce is a must try.

A bit dark inside, but the garlic was wonderful. The bagna Calda was very good and so was the chicken. The only issue was it was a bit pricey for what it is. I probably won't come here again for a long while. For a tourist it's great though.

Entertaining restaurant as is the lively neighborhood of North Beach, everything is LOADED with garlic. Colorful decor filled with oddities and memorabilia, the crazy waiters will entertain you and your food will ward off all vampires. Mostly Italian food with some ribs and salads for those off the carbs. Lot's of trinkets to purchase if you are looking for one of a kind souvenirs.

Definitely a different experience. I would not order the appetizer with the garlic and olive oil spread to put on their bread. Didn't add much to the bread. The 40 clove garlic chicken tasted great and was a large portion. Almost large enough to split. Garlic ice cream...Had to try it...probably wouldn't get it again, but glad to try it once.

Way to be adventurous, Jesse! The garlic ice cream isn't everyone's favorite, but I appreciate you giving it a shot. It's too bad you didn't like the bagna calda as much as your 40 clove chicken, though -- ask us for suggestions next time and we'll be glad to point you toward another appetizer. Hope you'll visit us again soon! Sincerely, Frank Reyes

Angel was a great server! Food was garlicky, and as a garlic lover that was awesome! Had the pork chop. Was really tender.

came here for the first time around Dec 10' - Its one of those places where they serve you something and at first, the first few bites were to Die for- than after a couple more..u just want to throw up! I had called in earlier to let them know it was my Bf's bday and so they seated us right next to the window, with a fancy chandelier that dangled on top of us. Also a cute miniature Christmas tree with happy Garlic cloves hanging on it! Our waiter was very helpful and knew we were crunched for time- so he brought everything out pretty fast! Overall this was probably good for a one time experience... unless of course, if you LOVE garlic!
