Is the Iran Deal Worth Keeping?
On 19 February, Lakhdar Brahimi and Ernesto Zedillo hosted a panel debate to consider the merits of the #Iran Nuclear Agreement at the Munich Security Conference 2017. Joined by HRH Prince Turki of Saudi Arabia and Sheikh Al Thani of Qatar, they considered its consequences for regional and global security.

Earlier this week, Ernesto Zedillo attended a conference of health experts in Bangkok, Thailand to speak on implementing inclusive social policies.

Drawing on his experiences as President of #Mexico, he outlined four pillars which could guide sustainable implementation of Universal Health Coverage.

“To improve health for all we need to fight for and protect the human rights of all people."

Earlier this week, Gro Harlem Brundtland underscored the importance of inclusive health policy as she addressed the Prince Mahidol Awards Conference, which this year focused on addressing the health of vulnerable populations.

In addition to outlining the crucial and straightforward health system reforms required to achieve Universal Health Coverage, she congratulated Thailand for its inclusive approach. She also reiterated the need for leaders to take "affirmative action to assist disadvantaged groups such as #women and children, #LGBT communities, the #elderly, #disabled people, ethnic #minorities, #refugees and #migrant populations."

#India has the largest population in the world without effective #health coverage, with tens of millions of people plunged below the poverty line due to their healthcare expenditures. The Elders have written to Indian political leaders to commend good progress in improving some health indicators in recent years, and particularly health reforms in #Delhi and #Bihar State. They urge Indian leaders to now show greater action and commitment to reach full Universal Health Coverage (#UHC) by 2019.
