Looking to add a little love to your life? How about something in black? For the entire month of April, help us celebrate adoptable dark-coated animals everywhere with our Back in Black adoption special!

To make it even sweeter, we are waiving adoption fees for featured Sanctuary black (and mostly black) dogs, cats and bunnies. Meet the eligible adoptables and learn about participating partners across the country HERE: http://bit.ly/BackInBlackApril2015. -melissa

Have dogs taken you by surprise on your neighborhood walks? How do you deal with it?
We were walking through the neighborhood when I saw a man hurrying two off-leash dogs into his house. I appreciated this responsible action that prevented Marley from having to face two exuberant dogs running up to him while he was leashed up. There was a large truck parked in the driveway that nearly hid us from view, so it’s possible that the dogs hadn’t even seen us.

Karen London uses yoga to help a fearful dog. Have you had a fearful dog improve in response to something unexpected?
We all know that many people see the great value of yoga for relaxing, reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and developing a more positive outlook. Many people are also fully on board with the idea that Doga (the practice of yoga with pet dogs) has similar benefits for dogs and guardians alike. Still, I was caught off guard with the amazing effects of my own yoga practice on a fearful dog who is spending the week at our house.

Millennials & Pet Parenthood #growingup
By now, I imagine everyone is pretty sick of the millennial trend piece—the repetitive cycle of laments about why those born post–1980-ish are so tragically immature. Nobody wants to admit that he or she fits rather neatly into the subject of a lazily researched cover story. But if I’m being honest, a number of elements of my life fit the prototype. I rent a ramshackle, one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. I am married, but childless.
