Sometimes you just have to unleash your inner explorer...so up, up and up I go. Where does this road lead, nobody knows. But it's gorgeous and peaceful. This is Nepal.

As the sun sets here in Nepal, locals continue their tireless work demolishing the sections of their house that were structurally damaged during the #NepalEarthquake. Notice the guy in the back left swinging a sledgehammer?

After a long day on two wheels, I've stopped down a random side street for an ice cold beer. Now that I have two days free in between #NepalQuakeRelief trips, I've decided to splurge and spend €10 renting a motorcycle and getting myself lost. Of course keep in mind that I am not advocating drinking and riding...however I should also mention there is a new series on my blog premiering Monday: Don't Do What Derek Did #DDWDD

Sunset in the mountains of northern Nepal. This most recent village we are doing volunteer work at is located literally at the top of a mountain, a steep one hour climb zigzagging up the mountainside on a glorified goat trail that I loathe to even call a road. However the view from the top, and the #NepalQuakeRelief work we are doing for the locals there, makes all our hard work worthwhile :)

Thanks! :) It's been a lot of work and has left me behind on so many deadlines that about half my clients are on the verge of firing me, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do +Mariellen Ward

Snapping photos out the window on my way up into the mountains of Nepal. Following behind me are two trucks overflowing with food and supplies. We found out what the people of this village need and now are en route to delivering over 4000 kilos of rice, among other things.

My home survived the earthquakes -- and so did my chicken. Life is good. Namaste.

Well, I can now say that I have been in 152 earthquakes in one month #soIgotThatGoingForMe All but four or five were 4.0 or larger, with the largest two being 7.3 and the initial 7.8. The last was about an hour ago but it's getting to the point where I'm tuning them out. It's been a long bumpy month in Nepal full of good and bad times, lots of relief work, and tons of interactions with locals. Certainly different than I expected. But my usefulness is coming to an end and it's time to move on. Unfortunately looks like I won't be trekking on this Nepal trip... 😞

The mountains of Nepal are gorgeous, perfect for an amazing motorcycle trip. Of course if you want to make it truly epic, bring a tent and a bag of rice along with your two hands. Find a family in a small mountain village, spend a week or two with them, helping clear the rubble and begin to rebuild. Manpower is going to be the biggest hurdle in the recovery efforts here, especially in the remote mountain villages. Foreigners have started arriving on free visas simply by explaining to immigration that they are here to help with relief efforts. Now is your chance to do some good and have an unforgettable adventure.

Structural engineers in Kathmandu have now confirmed it was the massive webs of power lines twisted around every building and down every alley which helped to save much of the city. Or not. I don't really know. But what I do know is I'm very happy I was not one of the electricians in Kathmandu responsible for getting the power back on after the quake.
