Public
This week democracy is the talk of the town, when Swedish politicians meet up with the public in Visby, Gotland. #Almedalen
I don't think the "public" can afford to be there. Just saying.2w
When politicians meet with the people do they listen ? or do they just tell them how it's going to be !2w
+Terence Petersen-Ajbro while I understand your objection, it is a bit odd to exclude gotlänningar from "the public". Many of them can just walk there.2w
Of course. Maybe this week should go in turns from city to city so no one place has a monopoly. It would prevent speculation in room-letting for example.2w
+Terence Petersen-Ajbro it's been a tradition for decades. People who enjoy discussing politics come here from all over our country...2w
+Sophia Adcock same tradition in Denmark, but on the island of Bornholm. It's really only journalists and politicians, ordinary people cannot afford to attend.2w
This week, we visited Femöre Battery. Walking over the installation, I got a little philosophical. Today the area is a museum, but it used to be "a stronghold against communism". The question that came up in my mind was, what extrem opinios does a democrcy (as a system) have to tolerate and when is it time for the Democrat (as part of the system) to rise and lift his/her voice to protest against the extremes?
Today, as the first "elected" dictators have returned in the world, this question is more important then anything else. Democracy can only exist as long as the people living in the system realize that excersing their democratic rights will be the only way to keep the system alive.
Let us, as Democrats, never give the dictators of this world the chance to overturn the system, even though it is not perfect, there is no better way to rule!2w
