Great meeting today with Stour Valley Community Archaeology Club and Eighth in the East to kick-off our ‪#‎WWII‬ ‪#‎Signatures‬ project, in the Airmen's Bar at The Swan ‪#‎VEDay70‬. The group will be photographing, cataloguing and transcribing the signatures in our Airmen's Bar. If you know someone who was stationed at RAF Lavenham during WWII and who may have signed our wall, please let us know, so that we can look out for their name/signature. In particular, we're interested in hearing about service personnel from the 487th Bomb Group 8th USAAF, who were stationed at RAF Lavenham during the war. To get in contact, please email: jane.larcombe@theswanatlavenham.co.uk

We had an evening meal only. The head wine waiter pounced on us in the bar and before we had even chosen from the menu having a pre dinner drink and informed us the bottles of wine were £35 each and the cheaper one £34. We decided to order a glass each because we had some miles to return to our hotel elsewhere so when we explained this, he gave us the impression we were second class citizens and flounced off telling us we could buy single glasses of wine from the bar. We both chose the salmon starter described as Salmon Croque Monsieur. We expected perhaps something on the lines of smoked salmon garnished with something but when it arrived it could only be described as 4 toasted sandwiches filled with the smallest slice of poached salmon, a layer of creme fraishe between the thinnest bread and toasted on both sides. I suppose the coloured plastic chairs in the room should have given us a clue! Absolutely tasteless! My husband's choice of main course was baked trout. However, the "masterpiece" was my choice of the Healthy Option. The description was green leaves salad, grapes, celery, avacado, and almonds with an additional option of grilled chicken, it sounded wonderful. It was actually a very large bowl of pea shoots, at least half a pound of defrosted peas, tiny pieces of chopped apple, avacado and celery with three slices of chicken best bought from any supermarket on a plastic tray, the grapes and almonds had obviously done a bunk and were nowhere to be seen. It was the worse meal we have had for the £66 it cost. This experience was very unfortunate because we later discovered the head chef was to marry the hotel manager of the Brudenell Hotel in Aldeburgh our next port of call where everything was excellent. What a pity, she could teach him a thing or two!

I do not usually write letters of praise, however, I will now. Our stay was made extreemly pleasant by your happy and helpfull staff (WITH NO EXCEPTIONS), the room was comfortable and well furnished, the atmosphere in the building is considerably enhanced by the tastfull decor and furnishings. The two minor points of criticism were;- the food portions catered for ladies on a diet ( dinner menu), and it was a lottery getting a parking space in your car park ( I understand from your staff that a lot of shoppers phone up to say they are booked for lunch and can they have the pass key!!!!!!!). Ask them for thier name to verify thier entitlement to your car park??? Wishing you all a happy new year and lots of presents @ christmas.JOAN PRENTICE & UNCLE FESTER ( MIKE GREENWOOD)

The last time I stayed at this hotel was 20 years plus ago the rooms were very swish the food was very nice,so its a shame there are those who find so much fault the old saying if you can't say something nice then don't say anything its a good one and still relevant and I bet they still ate their meal and didn't complain face on that's the power of the net you can hide behind it!!!!!! My name is Steve im using my other halfs computer from Birmingham and by the way there was a pianist when I was there a very slick touch

Christmas lunch party on 10th December - lovely building- disappointing meal. Table layout so cramped we were touching elbows and passing plates over heads - plates barely warm as was dinner. Dinner appeared to have been kept warm for some time before serving so turkey was dry and roast veggies soggy. Price of drinks was extortionate. Sad day not to be repeated.

What a let down! 10 for a special family reunion Sunday lunch and although we found the setting and waiting staff excellent, the 'Fine Dining' experience was not to be had. Cold plates, food only memorable for it's blandness. Rock-hard roast potatoes and cardboard Yorkshire puds, desserts should be a walk in the park for a professional kitchen - but no. Avoid the scrummy-sounding rhubarb and custard trifle - jelly at the bottom with - it had to be - packet custard! Good coffee though.. You pay through the nose for its' reputation, not the food.
