Lively stay for the night. The pool wad unfortunately under construction, but the hot-tub was lovely. Found the off-season price to be a little high, all considering, also, strange selection of spa/massage treatments, especially for men. My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. All in all, a lovely place - will probably airbnb next time we come down.

Highly recommend. Beautiful, peaceful setting. Wonderful to watch the birds in the marsh and on the lake. Very nice, well equipped room. Bonus to have a BBQ area. Service was very good.

The bed was mighty comfy. Winery tour by Top Cat Tours was very pleasant. Visited during autumn, will come back in summer to enjoy the small private beach and boating activities!

Had a great three night stay (family with 2 younger kids) here. Staff are friendly and helpful the entire hotel is very clean and full kitchen (with all the utensils and such you'll need) in rooms is nice to have. Located right on the lake and close enough to the highway but we'll below it so it's quiet. Do be aware if you are coming off-season as the pool and little Caffè in the hotel will be closed. Also, not a knock on the hotel (they don't mention it on their website, my mistake for not checking with them first) but another reviewer I saw talked about secured bike storage in the hotel - there is not. I would definitely stay here again.

The Giant's Head Mountain is a mountain destination with excellent views located in the Okanagan Valley community of Summerland, British Columbia, Canada. Giants Head Mountain was once a volcano. But how did it come to be known as the Giant's Head?

The rock's face which looks southeast (quite clear as one travels up Gartrell Road) resembles a man's profile and some people back in the early days of Summerland thought it most resembled Lord Shaftesbury. He was an empire builder who lived in England in the seventeenth century and led a group of dissidents within the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) who encouraged the Company to live up to their 1670 Royal Charter. The HBC had been created on paper as a colonizing agency, not just a trading company, and was supposed to promote settlement in Rupert's Land (later to be called Canada), but to Lord Shaftesbury's dismay, this didn't seem to be happening and it actually wouldn't happen in his lifetime.

The first official record of the name Giant's Head was in the field notes of Survey Lot Number 2561 which takes in most of the mountain. This land was pre-empted at about the turn of the century by one of Summerland's early land developers, James Ritchie. (However his wife Margaret claims that when she arrived in town everyone referred to the mountain as the Lion's Head.) William Fosbery, who was also around at the time, said that old-timers did not use the name Giant's Head and only before the "beard" eroded away did it really resemble Lord Shaftesbury.
