Singalila Range from Sandakphu
A comment here yesterday alerted me about the downsides of one-dimensional posts on GPlus. I suspect I am not catering to those who want to see non-wildlife images as much as I should.
So, here is one from November last year. This is a stitched panorama.

The Fishmonger and his Wife!
Simple lives and simple needs melting together into smiles that are honest and beautiful.
This is a man I know for a few years now, but this is the first time I came across his wife at the fish market. He asked that I take a shot of his wife, and one of the two of them together. I was with my Olympus #epl3  and took a couple of quick frames. I hope to meet him next week with a print which will bring the smile back.

The Ragpicker!
Here is another image I shot yesterday. This one I had time to frame as she walked up slowly looking around for anything of value that she could sell.
Note: I posted this elsewhere and many sympathized with her, so called, hard life . I am not here to judge, but personally I find dignity in all work. It is the lazy that I have sympathy for.

Nature's beauty!
I posted the birds of Kasauli, India yesterday. But the quaint hill station is a paradise for nature lovers. Here are an assortment of images that I made while enjoying my morning coffee - all (except the langur) from the comfort of a deck chair.
Disclaimer: My butterfly ID skills are non-existent. I would be grateful for corrections.

The Hilsa - a fish that over 300 million (30 crores) people swear by!
Tenualosa ilisha (Hilsa shad) is a species of fish in the herring family which is widespread in the Indian Ocean. Bengali speaking people worldwide are the biggest consumers of Hilsa, which can grow up to 60cm (2 feet) in length and weigh nearly 3 kg. The fish schools in coastal waters and ascends up the rivers for as much as 1,000 km during the South West monsoons. Most are caught for the trade at this time and the insatiable demand is leading to serious over-fishing. Prices are also on the rise and this 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds) specimen will sell for close to Rs 2,000 (USD 31)  in the Kolkata market today.
For those who are unaware of the qualities of the Hilsa, a word of caution - it is a very bony fish and unless you are a well trained hilsa-eater it is safest to try boneless 'Smoked hilsa' :)

The Monsoons are here! :)
It rained constantly for 36 hours in my parts and only stopped at 7am today. Sometimes it drizzled, at other times it poured. End result - the streets got waterlogged and the pumping equipment could not cope with the sheer volume of water.
It is just after 1.30pm here now, and the sky is again beginning to look ominous. That is what the south-west monsoon brings - new life and fresh pain.
Shot a few images earlier today and here is one of them.
