The Walk for Water
This homemaker is making her way to fetch water which is rarely available from a household tap in rural India.
Do note the colour-coordinated sieve in her left hand :)

The Lost Temples of Deulghata
This is one of the two remaining tall brick deul style Jain temples with stucco decoration on the banks of the River Kangsabati in Purulia, West Bengal, India.  (Location: 23°22'34"N   86°7'55"E)
Built around the 11th century AD in honour of Parswanatha and Mahavira, the temples are located in a beautiful grove and remind you of forgotten times.

The Hilsa - a fish that over 300 million (30 crores) people swear by!
Tenualosa ilisha (Hilsa shad) is a species of fish in the herring family which is widespread in the Indian Ocean. Bengali speaking people worldwide are the biggest consumers of Hilsa, which can grow up to 60cm (2 feet) in length and weigh nearly 3 kg. The fish schools in coastal waters and ascends up the rivers for as much as 1,000 km during the South West monsoons. Most are caught for the trade at this time and the insatiable demand is leading to serious over-fishing. Prices are also on the rise and this 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds) specimen will sell for close to Rs 2,000 (USD 31)  in the Kolkata market today.
For those who are unaware of the qualities of the Hilsa, a word of caution - it is a very bony fish and unless you are a well trained hilsa-eater it is safest to try boneless 'Smoked hilsa' :)

Kangsabati River at Deulghata
I posted an image of an ancient temple at Deulghata yesterday. The temple is at the bend of the Kangsabati  and the eagle-eyed can spot the stairs leading up from the right bank.
The Kangsabati rises from very close to this spot in the Murguma area of Jhalda in Purulia.

Our son, Arjun, works on making movies. This short film (10 mins) is for India's 69th Independence Day, which is today.
https://youtu.be/ovOF2AmkwtY
His earlier participation in a short film was in the much acclaimed Sujoy Ghosh thriller 'Ahalya' which is also on YouTube.
Happy Independence Day!

Singalila Range from Sandakphu
A comment here yesterday alerted me about the downsides of one-dimensional posts on GPlus. I suspect I am not catering to those who want to see non-wildlife images as much as I should.
So, here is one from November last year. This is a stitched panorama.

The Fishmonger and his Wife!
Simple lives and simple needs melting together into smiles that are honest and beautiful.
This is a man I know for a few years now, but this is the first time I came across his wife at the fish market. He asked that I take a shot of his wife, and one of the two of them together. I was with my Olympus #epl3  and took a couple of quick frames. I hope to meet him next week with a print which will bring the smile back.
