Theme from 'The Castle of the Black Prince' by Sue Aston
Hi everyone, here is a solo violin performance of one of my tracks 'The Castle of the Black Prince' which will be on my new album!

The inspiration behind this track came from a visit a few years ago to Restormel Castle in Lostwithiel, Cornwall. The castle was given to Edward, (known as the 'Black Prince', due to the colour of his armour). He sounded quite a character, so I thought I would write some music about him!

Thanks to one of my Patrons, Sheila, for helping me learn more about the history behind the Black Prince.

Hope you like it, and huge thanks to you all! X

It features a print of my watercolour painting, 'Carn Brea in Summertime' and inside I have written an extract of the Ted Hughes poem 'Work and Play' using calligraphy.

Rocky, my faithful companion!
He always listens to me practising the violin in the kitchen! (I like to stay near the fridge in case hunger strikes!)

Pulling together all the ideas for a special piece of music for my dear Patron, Edna.

I will be recording this very soon for my new album, ‘Of Mist and Moorland’. This piece has a haunting melody which I have composed on the violin, and with piano harmonies it sounds great!

While I Have Been Away

My String Quartet Classical Strings took part in the filming of several TV programmes recently – ‘Delicious’, and ‘Extreme Cake Makers’.

Our Quartet provided the music for a wedding scene in Sky TV’s show, ‘Delicious’, starring Dawn French and Emilia Fox. We were thrilled and excited to be asked to take part on the show, after watching the first series last year, which was filmed in Cornwall.

After an early start, we were ushered into hair and makeup, which alone was a treat! Several hours later, the time came to begin filming, and we performed the popular ‘Pachelbel’s Kanon as the actors filmed the wedding scene.

The Classical Strings Duo were invited to play at the 150th-anniversary celebrations at Pengenna Manor, which was featured by Channel 4’s programme, ‘Extreme Cake Makers’. The owner of the manor, Richard, had commissioned the talented Peboryon cake makers to produce a cake to mark the occasion. It was both stunning and delicious!

Our mix of popular classics and film music created a great backdrop to the event, and it was wonderful to meet Richard’s family at their special event.

Return to Menabilly - Music Video
music by Sue Aston
Menabilly, is a beautiful place near Fowey, and which was once home to the writer, Daphne du Maurier.
The headland has gorgeous views across St Austell Bay, and is a very special place for us, as it was Phil's dad's favourite place, and where they spent many happy family holidays.

It was very poignant to return to this location, and seemed fitting to use my track 'Remembrance' as the music to go with the footage. It is such a peaceful place - apart from a very exuberant dog called 'Murphy' who delighted in jumping all over us after he had been swimming in the sea!

As I sat on a rock, I could imagine Phil with his parents and sister spending a day on the beach, climbing rocks and eating a picnic. Although times change, Cornwall remains unspoilt. I love the work of Daphne du Maurier, and it was wonderful to imagine the view she looked upon as she gained inspiration for her work as a writer:

“If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.” Daphne du Maurier, from her novel, 'Rebecca'.

Hope you enjoy it! X

Thank you to my Patrons for making this possible
