Today in 1988, the Soviet Union launched its first space shuttle, called Buran. It was an unmanned flight that completed only two orbits. Russia’s shuttle program was canceled just five years later. This week, a Russian Soyuz capsule carried the newest crew members to the International Space Station.

It's only Monday, but it's not too early to make plans for Friday night. Come to Star Trek First Friday at the Science Center this Friday. There's discounted admission to Star Trek: The Exhibition, free parking, free telescope viewing, music and activities all over the Science Center. Plus, Star Trek makeup artist, Jeff Lewis, will speak and give a demonstration. A FREE screening of Star Trek: First Contact finishes off the night at 10.
