New book: TV White Spaces, a pragmatic approach

While several trials and deployments of TV White Spaces have been conducted in the USA, Europe and Africa, there are still many aspects that need to be considered in order to benefit from this technology.  A team of international experts addresses some of the most relevant issues, ranging from the spectrum regulatory framework and the societal implications to the technical details.

“This collection of articles explores both the policy and the technology around TV White Spaces. They are great articles individually, but they are strictly more powerful as a group. And as a group they continue the great heritage of mutual respect and discussion between technologists and policy makers - a heritage that includes changing the world for the better on a regular basis. (Professor Eric Brewer, University of California at Berkeley)”.

Great news.  Now growing dynamic spectrum standards like 802.22 and 802.11af have a mechanism to play together nicely, in the same way that Bluetooth and WiFi do in 2.4GHz

Just a short note to say that I have updated the AfTerFibre map with I've updated AfTerFibre with fibre networks in Burundi, Algeria and Libya.  See http://afterfibre.net

I continue to update the Flickr set of terrestrial fibre maps that I find at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ssong/sets/72157627195113720/
Now up to 57 maps.  About 10-15 of these have still be traced into KML format in case anyone would like to volunteer.  Instructions available at http://manypossibilities.net/afterfibre/how-to-contribute-a-map-to-afterfibre/
AfTerFibre. Click on a country to see the cables in that country, or on a cable to see details of that cable. If you wish to contribute to this project, there is a guide here.

Brilliant promotional video for KENET, the Kenyan Research and Education Network.  The comprehensive impact of KENET on Kenya's digital growth will never be fully appreciated.  Kudos to everyone who played a part in its development.
