10 Things Your Dog Would Tell You

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful: remember that before you get me.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me- it is crucial to my well being.
4. Do not be angry at me for long, and do not lock me up as punishment.
5. You have your work, your entertainment, and your friends. I only have you.
6. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understands your words, I understand your voice when it is speaking to me.
7. Be aware that how ever you treat me, I will never forget.
8. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily hurt you, but I choose not to bite you because I love you.
9. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate,or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I might not be getting the right food, or I have been out too long, or my heart is getting to old and weak.
10. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: "I cannot bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there, even my death.
Remember that I love you.

I hate to say it, but I'm about to go through this I think. I've had Trip, my Boxer, since she was 2 months old. She just turned 9yrs old last November, which is what I have heard is about the life expectancy.
Yeah, I read this and it made me feel like those Beneful ads with the dog narrating his joy of finding a ball and making his owner happy. Gets me every time.
+Elle Gray best thing I have ever found on What's Hot! I almost cried as well because a few years ago I did put down my 16 year old Pekingese it was like losing a kid!
Someone who works at a vet office said when you put a dog to sleep, the owner should stay in the room because as soon as the owner leaves, the dogs always look for them.
I'm going to have to look at something else now. Sorry.
Omg, This tugged hard at my heart strings. I love it. I'm on the verge of tears. Thanks for the post, Steph. :)
Well, Stephanie, at least you know there are a certain group of folks going to go home this evening and give their pets extra pats this evening. :) (Of course, I do that every evening. My two cats are my great buddies. But still.)
((hugs)) Yes, we had dogs as a kid. I love dogs. We currently don't have one.
My cats behave sort of on the Dog spectrum. One loves to play fetch and follow me around. They were my first pets and I've only had them for just under two years now. But I can't imagine not having them around.
