Google is replacing its implementation of the Java application programming interfaces (APIs) in Android with OpenJDK, the open source version of Oracle's Java Development Kit (JDK). The news first came by a "mysterious Android codebase commit" from last month submitted to Hacker News. Google confirmed to VentureBeat that Android N will rely solely on OpenJDK, rather Android's own implementation of the Java APIs.
There is a question that puzzles me. For thousands of years, humanity believed that the earth was the center of the universe. Later on we understood that Earth and the other planets move around the Sun etc. Now we now that the universe is very vast, with billions of stars etc. The question is why is the universe so enormous? What if it was a few dozen galaxies and that's it ? Is this a way of "something" telling us how insignificant we are ?
The desktop shell is getting closer and closer to being usable as a full desktop environment right from the login screen. We recently finished a session manager backend so you can launch the shell from GDM or another login manager (SDDM support for wayland sessions will be available in the next release). We also just added a nice power dialog that pops up when you hit the hardware power key.
What's left before v0.1? Mainly an upstream bug in Green Island causing apps to crash, fixing some issues with the icon theme and mouse speed, and finishing the window spread and Material Design window decorations.
