Some of the military employees who collectively charged more than $1 million to government credit cards at casinos and strip clubs weren’t held fully accountable by managers, and officials didn’t act appropriately to prevent national security vulnerabilities and further misuse, according to a new federal report.

Both Rubio, who ran for president this year, and McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, have sought to avoid clashing with Trump, lest they alienate Republican voters they will need to win in November. But both now face well-financed Democratic opponents who are determined to yoke them to their party's unpopular standard-bearer.
Republican voters renominated two of their party's best-known figures for the Senate on Tuesday, setting up grueling general-election contests for Arizona's John McCain and Florida's Marco Rubio in a year where the GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has upended the political scene.

“I don’t have adequate words to describe what a personal loss this is for me,” former Air Force Academy coach Fisher DeBerry said from his South Carolina home Monday night. “It’s a sad day for Falcon football. I’m sure so many people who enjoyed watching him play feel as empty as I do today.”
Dee Dowis, whose mastery of Air Force’s option offense made him a Heisman Trophy finalist, died early Monday morning in a traffic accident near Atlanta.

Col. Abdul Azim Oriakhel, who has been managing disasters in Afghanistan for more than 30 years, says his job has never been more gruesome than it is today.
Despite America’s 15-year military presence in Afghanistan and the investment of more than $100 billion in the country, the security situation here remains uncertain. Attacks in the capital are becoming deadlier. “It’s getting worse because the enemy are using new tactics,” says Col. Abdul Azim Oriakhel, who has been managing disasters in Afghanistan for more than 30 years.

The journey of Caroline and Winrose Karunde began in a small village in Nyeri, Kenya. It has continued through Texas, into Germany, and will soon proceed through Washington. In that light, Tokyo doesn’t seem so far away to the two soldiers.
