When you combine upper body rotation with weight transfer you give yourself the opportunity to generate maximum power.

Think about stepping and hitting in one fluid motion with your foot planting just before the moment of impact.

Try to get in front of your opponent as much as you can and control the middle of the court.

You want to be in control of the T zone with your opponent doing on the work into the four corners.

Control your follow through, it plays such an important role in dictating where the ball ends up.

As DP would say, “don't be a conductor”…

Developing strength and stability in your lower body is essential to the creation of smooth movement around the squash court.

Daryl’s right leg is taking most of the load whilst his left leg slides forward to help him move fluidly back to the T.

Keep your grip relaxed until impact with the ball and ensure your index finger is extended up the shaft of the racket.

It will give you increased control over the racket head.

This is a great example of Nick’s severe swing as he hits down the back of the ball looking to attack.

The key things to focus on are getting your racket above the ball and ensuring that you open up the racket face!

It's important then to include plenty of unilateral exercises into your training as well, beyond your standard lunge patterns.

Exercises such as step-ups, rear foot elevated split squats, and pistol squats are all great to incorporate into your training to really help make sure both legs are being trained and strengthened evenly!

The key element to the forehand swing is to get the elbow in front of the wrist on the down swing.

It naturally opens up the racket face giving you many more options to go long or short.

Paul Coll demonstrates the importance of a solid wrist position here as he straightens the ball up on the backhand side.

The racket head needs to get to a position where it is at 90 degrees to the sidewall in order to get the ball running straight down the wall…

Smile! It’s a simple technique but lots of people forget that they play squash for enjoyment.

When you are hard on yourself and getting down your squash will suffer. Remember it’s fun and you want to enjoy being on the squash court!
