A fantastic new pack by Max for Cats. This time not with a Max for Live device, but over 80 amazing Operator presets from the synth fanatic. Perfect for your next House tracks, but also great in all kinds of styles of music. Grab a small selection of the presets in the freebie version.
Max for Cats is generally known for his fantastic Max for Live devices. What many may not know is that he also has a passion for synths that borders on

If you have Kontakt, this might be something to get.
This set of samples (and accompanying Kontakt presets) is like getting to raid someone's closet of vintage and rare gear - for free.

I've got a new Max for Live freebie by Max for Cats for you. Enjoy!
This week I've got a brand new and free Max for Live MIDI effect by Max for Cats for you. TriggerTune is designed to play a melodic sequence with just the press of a (MIDI mappable) button or by an incoming MIDI note. This allows e.g. drummers to map the ‘STEP’ button to a MIDI trigger pad and rhythmically play a pre-arranged sequence. This again, can drive any synth, sampler or MIDI instrument. This is how it works: Bonus tip: The fun can be ma...

Good introduction to racks in Ableton Live by Joshua Casper.
Ableton Live's racks can be as simple and complex as you wish them to be. Don't be put off by perceived complexity though. There's lots of cool things you can d

Common sense tips that bear repeating...
Do you really need the most expensive Mac or PC to handle big track counts and lots of plugins in your home studio? The short answer is: no. The computer you already have is probably fine. In fact, as of this writing I’m still rocking a 6 year old Mac Mini in my studio. I... Read more »

If you're looking for some light skins for Ableton...
I've created 6 new skins for Ableton Live that you can download for free. They work well with Live 9 and also previous versions. This set of skins adds more dashes of colour than the last one, but without being too shrill. Enjoy! Download the free "Ableton Live Skins 2" Or... You can find even more skins here. If you don't know how to install new skins, here's a quick tutorial.

Sonic goodness made from the string of a metal harp.
In time for the Christmas holidays, I've got a free Live Pack for you that fits the theme. "MetalHarp" contains three fully macro mapped Instrument Racks, ranging from dreamy to metallic distortion. Made in and for Ableton Live 9 Suite (contains Amp). Listen to the demo: If clicking it to download results in a text-file, simply right-click and choose 'Save Link as...'. To install, just double-click the alp-file and choose the installation path ...

How to be better say 'Happy New Year!' than with fireworks?
Sonic Bloom is now online for two years. Time to celebrate it with a befitting free Live Pack, methinks. So this Live Pack is based on the sound of fireworks. One Drum Rack, one Instrument Rack made from a howler, both fully macro-mapped. Made in and for Ableton Live 9. Listen to the demo: If clicking it to download results in a text-file, simply right-click and choose 'Save Link as...'. To install, just double-click the alp-file and choose the ...

Bored of all the grey? These 6 skins for Ableton Live bring colour on your screen without being over the top.
Here are 6 skins for Ableton Live that I've created for you to download for free. As you can see on the image below, there are some dark ones, suitable for live performances, as well as lighter ones. Enjoy! Update: I tweaked the skins some more so they now work well in Live 9, too. Of course they still can be used in older version of Live as well. Download the free "Ableton Live Skins 1" Or... You can find even more skins here. If you don't k...

House Operator Vol. 1 Ableton Live Pack: cutting leads, fat bass sounds, characteristic House chords & pads
House Operator Vol. 1 A preset collection for the Ableton FM-Synthesizer Operator made by Max for Cats Since its origins in the early 80s, a strong characteristic of the first and second wave of house music is the use of FM synthesizers - such as the Yamaha DX100, the TX81z and, of course, the DX7 which started

Get comfy and watch some great music documentaries. It's the perfect season for this kind of thing (at least in the northern hemisphere).

Since a lot of you probably had better things to do than check your tweets, Facebook or Google+, here are five of them that any music producer or even just avid music fan should watch. Discovering Electronic Music (1983) The Chemical Generation - Acid House documentary (2000) Pump Up The Volume - The History Of House Music (20...
