“Most of the kids in Kibera are raped, some are neglected by their parents, some are homeless. Most of them have dreams, but they don’t know how they can achieve them, so I had to write a poem that tells them that they can achieve their dreams.” -Smart Girl Eunice, age 10

"In Sitting Bull: A Life Story, Matthews tells the story of the Hunkpapa Lakota chief who led the Lakota tribes to fight against the injustices of the US Government. With vivid and evocative drawings, Matthews not only explores the different perspectives and tensions at the heart of early American history, she also tells an important story of courage and leadership."

Ellie Davies enchants us with surreal portraits of forests that glow with mystical fairy lights and ominous waves of mist.  The London-based abstract photographer creates her captivating shots in natural areas throughout the UK. With the woods as her canvas, fireflies illuminate desolate clearings, and cascading flurries of glitter dust dramatically lit patches of trees. Davies says she likes to explore images that juxtapose human and natural ele...

"Surrounding an exhibition at Maker City LA, artist Paige Smith A.K.A. a common name, began to install new crystallized rock formations around the streets of LA. The geodesic rock formations -- which she refers to as urban geodes -- are created mostly with paper and spray paint or cast resin in random cracks and crevices around the city."

"Yes, she’s 'a fictional character', but that’s not the point and ultimately is a disservice. Black Widow is still a role model to a lot of young girls: she inspires them to be strong, powerful, hold their own, and gives girls a way to escape into the fantasy that superherodom provides."

On late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, the Internet churned itself into a frenzy thanks to an interview with Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans wherein they called Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff a "slut" and a "whore." It was ...not great and immediately incited a litany of reactions regarding whether or not the joke was inherently sexist. All of which contributes to the continuation of an almost Sisyphean conversation abou...

Renner's "apology" about a fictional character makes him a real asshole. Message loud and clear, Jeremy, it's okay to slutshame and degrade women as long as it's just bros letting off some steam. And you'll just be sorry for our offense and not your douchebag behavior.

Alice Barker danced in the legendary clubs like the Apollo and Zanzibar during the 1930s Harlem Renaissance, but had lost her old photographs and memorabilia with time.
