Have you or will you had a debate/discussion with a moral nihilist, such as Richard Joyce about whether or not morality itself is actually a part of our universe or a social construct?  It's easy to go after religion.  Defending the objective value or truth of secular humanism is much more difficult, I would argue impossible.

+Taylor Sandbom Evolution = Racism? It's like saying diabetes is mass-murder. Evolution, diseases or volcanoes are forces of nature. They are unintentional and random events. Evolution is a process of nature that contributes to life diversity and survival of the fittest/smartest/most fortuitous organisms. Racism is a primitive social adaptation which is very much intentional but whats more important it's strictly behavioral at its base. You can not deem a natural event to be intentionally prejudiced toward a group of organisms. Natural selection is a cruel process in human standards, I admit that, but it nonetheless is real and our personal subjective opinion is inadequate in this matter. It is not just or fair and it does not consider our feelings because it's a more or less random process.

Many of us do indeed live in the best of times, but Saudi Arabia stills executes for sorcery.

Yet another Stephen Pinker book that I will add to my collection.  But also I now realize I should be subscribing to Skeptic Magazine.  Not only a result of my guilt trip about viewing so much of the amazing content that SM puts onto the web for free, but the little "multi-universe" article plug had me hooked.  Thanks for the free content, but I'm also looking to support you guys a little bit more!  Keep up the great work.

Examining Extraordinary Claims and Promoting Science
Introduction
THE SKEPTICS SOCIETY is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) scientific and educational organization whose mission is to engage leading experts in investigating the paranormal, fringe science, pseudoscience, and extraordinary claims of all kinds, promote critical thinking, and serve as an educational tool for those seeking a sound scientific viewpoint. Our contributors—leading scientists, scholars, investigative journalists, historians, professors and teachers—are top experts in their fields. It is our hope that our efforts go a long way in promoting critical thinking and lifelong inquisitiveness in all individuals.

A LEADING INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATION in the realm of skeptical inquiry, Skepticmagazine examines extraordinary claims and revolutionary ideas, promotes critical thinking, and serves as an educational tool for those seeking a sound scientific viewpoint. Each issue examines a specific theme and explores various social, scientific, and paranormal controversies. We investigate claims of the paranormal, pseudoscience, fringe groups, cults and claims between: science, pseudoscience, junk science, voodoo science, pathological science, bad science, non science and plain old nonsense.

DR. MICHAEL SHERMER is the Founding Publisher of
Skeptic magazine, the Executive Director of the Skeptics Society, a monthly columnist for Scientific American, the host of the The Skeptics Society’s Distinguished Science Lecture Series, and Adjunct Professor at Claremont Graduate University and Chapman University.
