The San Jose Earthquakes are an original member of MLS and enjoy a rich history that dates back to 1974 when the North American Soccer League held rank as the top flight in America.
San Jose defeated D.C. United 1-0 in the first MLS match ever played on April 6, 1996 at Spartan Stadium.
The club won MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003 and captured the Supporter’s Shield in 2005.
From 1996 to 2005, the Quakes played in San Jose before being relocated to Houston. The Earthquakes then returned to MLS as an expansion franchise in 2008.
In 2010, the Earthquakes qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since rejoining the league and reached the Eastern Conference Championship.
