I currently have with me a young woman who has been made homless by her family and has been beaten up by her boyfriend in my property, he is a tenant. She left here and was then beaten up again and now back with me. Bruised all over body and fluctuations of distress and sanity. The landlord told me to leave her in the street... I am going aim to have her rehoused today if possible. Dark and savage times. As an aside cheap housing should be built in tower block style but better than the ones in the 1950s .. The green belt is also massivly important. Either that or build houses where mansions once stood .. 3+ houses on land that currently only has one . . 40% tax should encourage the rich to do such things. Wish me luck..

Breaking news: Parents are feeling the financial strain, stumping up on average £23,000 to their kids for a deposit: http://shltr.org.uk/490

We can't believe a pay-out from the Bank of Mum and Dad is the next generation’s only chance of affording a home of their own - can you?

This'll come as no surprise to many of you - but two thirds of renters can't save ANY money for a deposit.

Parents are bearing the brunt of rising housing costs for their children - but for how long can this go on?

Despite working hard and saving a whole generation face being priced out unless we tackle the housing shortage.

Homes can only be affordable if how they are paid for is changed. Banks have unlimited power to create money as confirmed by the Bank of England, and most of that money goes into property.

There should be enough help so families don't lose their homes while they’re getting back on their feet: http://shltr.org.uk/4hy

+1 for saving the safety net.

The cuts aren't the problem, they are merely a symptom, not the cause. The problem is the fractional reserve banking system that the media - and therefore the people - despite the BoE explaining how it used to create money from nothing. I think the only solution is ending credit fm nothing, and starting Universal Basic Income.

Story

The housing and homelessness charity
Introduction

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness - and we campaign to prevent it in the first place. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Help and advice

Shelter provides free, confidential advice to people with all kinds of housing problems through our online housing information and our face to face local services.

'My situation completely improved in as much as I didn't have to move out and was given a solicitor to advise me and represent me in court if necessary. I was very impressed with your attitude and the help I was given. Excellent.' Shelter client

Fighting for change

Shelter tackles the root causes of bad housing by lobbying government and local authorities for new laws and policies, and more investment, to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people.

Our influential campaigns bring aspects of bad housing to the attention of the media and the public, who help us fight for solutions.

Informing professionals

As a leading expert on housing in Britain, we develop practical solutions to address the housing crisis. We also work in conjunction with the housing sector to promote good practice, publish reports, and deliver professional training.
