My uncle Pat Mahoney and I have had this shot planned for nearly 5 years and we finally combined forces to make it happen. :) We drove out to a very remote region of Mojave National Preserve with a portable 12V battery pack, an inverter, a ladder, and multiple strings of LED Christmas lights. After loosely draping this small Joshua tree with the lights, we connected them to the inverter and battery pack out of frame to light them up. A base exposure for the sky was taken with the lights off during twilight to maintain some blue color in the sky while being dark enough to show the stars. A second exposure was taken for the lights and their glow in the foreground. Happy holidays! :D
