Study reinforces finding that decades-long climate cycle is behind seeming flatlining of global surface air temperatures
Atmospheric greenhouse gases have continued to rise during recent years, yet global mean surface temperature has shown no clear warming since about 2000. This slowdown in surface warming, often referred to as the global warming “hiatus,” is in sharp contrast to model simulations, ...

Groundbreaking discoveries at Scripps inspire solutions to some of the greatest environmental challenges we face today.
Introduction

A department of UC San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for ocean, Earth and atmospheric science research, education, and public service in the world. Research at Scripps  encompasses physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans, Earth, and planets.  Scripps undergraduate and graduate programs provide transformative educational and research opportunities in ocean, Earth, and atmospheric sciences, as well as degrees in climate science and policy and marine biodiversity and conservation.

The Scripps Fleet of four oceanographic research vessels and the research platform FLIP make up one of the largest academic fleets in the world.  A new ocean-class research ship that will be operated by Scripps on behalf of the Office of Naval Research is under construction and will join the fleet in 2015.
