Santa Feans celebrated Mexican Independence on the Plaza for decades until 1844. Festivities included Pueblo Indian dances, food, music and in 1835, a bullfight on the Plaza. This week the City Council will decide whether to resurrect the Plaza celebration.
On the cold evening of Dec. 10, 1822, Santa Fe residents lit bonfires, rang bells and musicians played their instruments as revelers planted a pole in the Plaza to fly a white flag with the inscription “Independence.”

Treasure hunters from as far away as Pennsylvania and Virginia gathered Saturday in the woods to swap stories, hand-sketched maps and clues about a hidden bronze treasure chest.

The average donation in New Mexico for Hillary Clintons campaign in on average nearly four times greater than the average donation to the Bernie Sanders campaign. But, Sanders has received more donations by a similar margin, contributing to his fundraising lead over his opponent.
If recent polls can be trusted, Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton should have no problem winning New Mexico in Tuesday’s primary election. But campaign contributions tell a different story.

The new digs for Santa Fe's Honda and Subaru dealer will have its grand opening on Thursday. The Outback, of course, is often described in jokes as the official car of Santa Fe.

This critter continues to be at the center of the controversy of releasing grey wolves into the wild. After the state filed suit to bar the releases, a group of conservation organization have hit back in support of the wolves.

Prepare for silliness. The next movie in the park is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" on June 17.
The performance green at the Santa Fe Railyard Park became a squirming patchwork of blankets, chairs, diaper bags and picnic baskets, as a crowd estimated at between 800 and 1,000 people came together at twilight for the kickoff of the free summer Movies in the Park series.

The growing hostility of Utes and Apaches was one reason for the creation of Fort Union. But another was the Army’s desire to transfer departmental headquarters there from Santa Fe. In the early 1850s, the territorial capital was looked upon as “a sink of vice and extravagance,” in the words of Lt. Col. Sumner.
Of the dozen or so major U.S. military forts established in territorial New Mexico, the sites of only a few are today accessible to the public.
